Case ReportsIntussusception With Cecal Cyst as Lead Point in a Child.
Intussusception is a pediatric abdominal emergency in early childhood involving telescoping of 1 part of the bowel into another part. In most children, the condition is idiopathic with no identifiable lead point. Meckel diverticulum is the most common lead point, followed by polyps and duplication cysts. ⋯ The patient presented after a 3-month period of symptomatology and had been considered to have constipation before signs of intestinal obstruction developed. Only mild bowel ischemia was seen during the surgical reduction and resection of the cyst which may suggest an ongoing partial obstruction that eventually became more significant. In children with recurrent abdominal pain, surgeons should consider the possibility of intermittent intussusceptions caused by a duplication cyst.

Case ReportsDermatologic Manifestations of Colchicine Intoxication.
Colchicine is an anti-inflammatory drug that has a narrow therapeutic index. Poisoning typically shows 3 phases with systemic symptoms. ⋯ Alopecia is a cardinal feature of the third phase, but there is no specifically defined eruption for toxication. Here, we report a case of colchicine intoxication in a 16-year-old girl with maculopapular/purpuric rash and alopecia.

Feasibility of the Digital Retinography System Camera in the Pediatric Emergency Department.
Direct ophthalmoscopy may be difficult without pupillary dilation and patient cooperation. Nonmydriatic ocular fundus photography (NMOFP) has been shown to be easily and efficiently accomplished by medical providers and improve the detection of abnormalities in adult emergency department (ED) patients. Nonmydriatic ocular fundus photography for pediatric ED patients has not been studied. The purpose of this study was to assess the ease of use of the Digital Retinography System (DRS) camera for NMOFP in ED patients aged 5 to 12 years and the quality of retinal images obtained with the DRS. ⋯ Our data suggest that NMOFP using the DRS camera is a rapid and easy method of obtaining high-quality images of the retina in pediatric ED patients.

Outcome of Pediatric Forearm Fracture Reductions Performed by Pediatric Emergency Medicine Providers Compared With Reductions Performed by Orthopedic Surgeons: A Retrospective Cohort Study.
The aim of this study was to describe the outcome differences between board-certified orthopedists and pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) physicians conducting forearm fracture reductions. ⋯ Orthopedists performed better in maintaining fracture reductions compared with PEM physicians but lengthened the ED stay for our patients. There was no significant difference in cost.

Marijuana Misadventures in Children: Exploration of a Dose-Response Relationship and Summary of Clinical Effects and Outcomes.
This study aimed to explore a dose-response relationship of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in THC-naïve children after unintentional acute exposure and compare clinical outcomes with non-naïve children. ⋯ There seems to be a direct relationship between the estimated oral THC dose (mg/kg), hospital disposition, and level of medical intervention required. Symptoms and duration of effects after THC exposure varied based on the route of exposure, age of patient, and history of previous THC experience.
