To investigate the prophylactic antiemetic effect of midazolam after middle ear surgery. ⋯ Midazolam 0.075 mg/kg is effective for reducing nausea and vomiting after middle ear surgery.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyThe effect of saline solutions on nasal patency and mucociliary clearance in rhinosinusitis patients.
To compare the effect of two saline nasal sprays on nasal patency and mucociliary clearance in patients with rhinosinusitis. ⋯ Buffered physiological and buffered hypertonic saline nasal sprays both improve mucociliary clearance, which is beneficial for treatment of rhinosinusitis. Additionally, buffered physiological saline improves nasal airway patency, whereas buffered hypertonic saline has no effect. Both solutions provide symptomatic relief, but buffered hypertonic saline is more irritating.

To understand risk and possible mechanisms of thermal injury to the tongue during suspension laryngoscopy. ⋯ Tissue heating may occur from contact with operative laryngoscopes. This is an important patient safety issue in laryngology.

The protective effect of intratympanic dexamethasone on cisplatin-induced ototoxicity in guinea pigs.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of intratympanic dexamethasone injection as a protection agent against cisplatin-induced ototoxicity. ⋯ Intratympanic dexamethasone injection did not cause any ototoxic effect; in contrast, it might have a significant protective effect after cisplatin injection.
