Clinical correlates of sudomotor dysfunction in patients with type 2 diabetes and peripheral neuropathy.
To investigate the factors associated with abnormal electrochemical skin conductance (ESC) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) and early diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). ⋯ Sudomotor dysfunction is highly prevalent in patients with T2D, especially in those with DPN. Various diabetes-related factors were linked to lower ESC values, indicating an association between chronic hyperglycemia and sudomotor function. We also observed a strong relationship between foot deformities and ESC abnormalities. We conclude that the factors associated with DPN are also relevant to sudomotor dysfunction.

Insulin tolerance test predicts non response vs. sustained efficacy of Liraglutide on glycemic control in type 2 diabetes patients: A prospective real-world setting study.
Less than half of type 2 diabetes patients treated with Glucagon-Like Peptide 1 (GLP-1) analogs displays good glycemic control, according to real life studies. Predictive markers of inefficacy/efficacy are therefore needed. The effectiveness of Liraglutide in terms of glycemic control and weight loss was then evaluated according to putative predictive parameters. ⋯ This study suggests ITT as an efficient test to discriminate non-response from long-term efficacy before initiating Liraglutide. ITT could therefore help avoiding "try and see" prescription pattern by using a more precise and patient-centered strategy in order to reduce inertia in adapting treatment and so reduce subsequent complications.

Resolution of ketoacidosis in children with new onset diabetes: Evaluation of various definitions.
Data are sparse concerning use of serum electrolyte parameters as compared to venous blood gas (VBG) measurements to monitor acid-base status during treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). We explored the utility of various parameters to define DKA resolution by investigating the relationship of venous pH (vpH), anion gap (AG), serum bicarbonate (HCO3), and glucose concentration during management of DKA in children with new onset diabetes mellitus (NODM). ⋯ During management of pediatric DKA, HCO3 > 15 mmol/L reliably predicts resolution of DKA. In low-resource settings where VBG is unavailable, electrolyte parameters alone may be used to determine DKA resolution.

Diabetes Alert Dogs (DADs): An assessment of accuracy and implications.
To test the accuracy of Diabetes Alert Dogs (DADs) by comparing recorded alerts to continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) device readings during waking and sleeping hours. ⋯ In this study the majority of DADs did not demonstrate accurate detection of low and high BG events. However, performance varied greatly across DADs and additional studies are needed to examine factors contributing to this variability. Additionally, more research is needed to investigate the significant gap between the positive experiences and clinical outcomes reported by DAD owners and the mixed research findings on DAD accuracy.
