Neurostimulation of the lacrimal nerve for enhanced tear production.
To design a proof-of-concept study to assess the effect of lacrimal nerve stimulation (LNS) with an implantable pulse generator (IPG) to increase aqueous tear production. ⋯ LNS with an IPG appears to increase aqueous tear production. Chronic LNS showed no histopathologic lacrimal gland damage. This study suggests that LNS is a promising new treatment strategy to increase aqueous tear production.

Randomized Controlled TrialPerioperative pregabalin for attenuation of postoperative pain after eyelid surgery.
To examine the effect of a 1-time dose of pregabalin (Lyrica) on the perception of pain and analgesic consumption after oculofacial plastic surgery. ⋯ Pregabalin is effective in reducing postoperative pain after oculoplastic procedures when compared with placebo. It may be a useful adjunct for pain control in selected patients.
