Case ReportsSubperiosteal hematoma after surgical treatment for subarachnoid hemorrhage.
After the surgical treatment for subarachnoid hemorrhage, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging clearly demonstrated a fracture in the medial wall of the left orbit and a superonasal subperiosteal hematoma. Removal of the subperiosteal hematoma and correction of the fracture were successful. Subperiosteal hematoma is an unusual complication after inadvertent neurosurgical manipulation.

Comparative StudyThe porous polyethylene (Medpor) spherical orbital implant: a retrospective study of 136 cases.
To evaluate complications and risk factors associated with the placement of wrapped and unwrapped porous polyethylene (PP) spherical implants after evisceration, enucleation, or secondary implantation. ⋯ Our series revealed no significant difference in exposure rate between wrapped and unwrapped PP sphere implants, nor was the exposure rate affected by whether an eye was eviscerated or enucleated.

Orbital roof fractures: management of ophthalmic complications.
To review the clinical features and management of patients with orbital roof fractures. ⋯ Orbital and ocular injuries are common in association with orbital roof fractures. A multidisciplinary approach to management is required because facial and cerebral injuries are also common. Most patients can be managed conservatively. The specific ophthalmic indications for surgical intervention are limited, but the outcome in these cases is gratifying.

Case ReportsImmunotherapy for melanoma metastatic to the orbit.
To present 3 cases of melanoma metastatic to the orbit treated with various traditional modalities including surgery and chemotherapy and being treated with melanoma vaccines and to present background information on immunotherapy. ⋯ Although still unproven, immunotherapy with melanoma vaccines is a promising new treatment modality for metastatic melanoma with few side effects.

Ophthalmologic sequelae of thermal burns over ten years at the Alfred Hospital.
To study the ocular outcomes of facial burns over a 10-year period at the Alfred Hospital; in particular, to investigate the impact of 3 variables (grading of burn, use of prophylactic ocular surface lubrication, and timing of ophthalmologic referral) on the requirements for eyelid surgery. ⋯ The requirement for eyelid surgery was closely related to the severity of the eyelid burn. The presence of an acute corneal burn with epithelial loss was not a poor prognosticator. The use of prophylactic ocular surface lubrication may provide early corneal protection, thereby minimizing ulceration in patients who may otherwise have required surgery, especially in those with mild to moderate exposure. Prompt ophthalmologic examination and the early use of prophylactic ocular surface lubrication for the cornea are associated with less need for eyelid surgery in patients with moderate eyelid burns.
