Comparative Study
Comparison of multislice computed tomography and clinical scores for diagnosing acute appendicitis.
To compare Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Appendicitis (RIPASA) and Alvarado scores with multislice computed tomography (MSCT) for diagnosing acute appendicitis (AA). ⋯ MSCT is the optimum diagnostic tool for AA, followed by RIPASA score and Alvarado score, particularly in diagnosing simple and perforated AA.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Randomized controlled clinical trial evaluating multiplex polymerase chain reaction for pathogen identification and therapy adaptation in critical care patients with pulmonary or abdominal sepsis.
To determine whether a multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based test could reduce the time required for initial pathogen identification in patients in an intensive care unit (ICU) setting. ⋯ The LightCycler® SeptiFast PCR test demonstrated a significant reduction in the time required for initial pathogen identification, compared with standard BC.

To measure the migration of oral Ring-Adair-Elwyn (RAE) preformed tracheal tubes during neck extension compared with the neutral neck position, and to assess the correlation between changes in the thyromental distance (TMD) during changes in neck position and tracheal tube migration. ⋯ Oral RAE tube migration was not significantly correlated with the change in external TMD. Due to their large variability, changes in TMD were not useful predictors of RAE tube migration.
