Incisional approach and fixation technique should be based on the patient and specific needs. ⋯ It is important to remember that positioning of the ankle joint is a keystone in ankle arthrodesis. There are complications that can arise from the ankle fusion, including the need for further surgical intervention owing to arthritis in the subtalar and midtarsal joints.
