Physician burnout is often assessed by healthcare organizations. Yet, scores from different burnout measures cannot currently be directly compared, limiting the interpretation of results across organizations or studies. ⋯ Our findings allow healthcare organizations using the PFI or MZSIB to compare group-level scores to historical, regional, or national MBI scores (and vice-versa).

Association Between Statins and Cancer Incidence in Diabetes: a Cohort Study of Japanese Patients with Type 2 Diabetes.
The antitumor effect of statins has been highlighted, but clinical study results remain inconclusive. While patients with diabetes are at high risk of cancer, it is uncertain whether statins are effective for cancer chemoprevention in this population. ⋯ Statin use was associated with a reduced incidence and mortality of cancer in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes.

Substance Use Disorder Detection Rates Among Providers of General Medical Inpatients.
The prevalence of substance use disorders is higher among medical inpatients than in the general population, placing inpatient providers in a prime position to detect these patients and intervene. ⋯ Findings indicate patient characteristics, including gender, race, and addiction severity impact rates of provider detection. Instituting formal screening for all substances may increase provider detection and inform treatment decisions.

Administrative data algorithms (ADAs) to identify pneumonia cases are commonly used in the analysis of pneumonia burden, trends, etiology, processes of care, outcomes, health care utilization, cost, and response to preventative and therapeutic interventions. However, without a good understanding of the validity of ADAs for pneumonia case identification, an adequate appreciation of this literature is difficult. We systematically reviewed the quality and accuracy of published ADAs to identify adult hospitalized pneumonia cases. ⋯ ADAs for identification of adult pneumonia hospitalizations are highly heterogeneous, poorly validated, and at risk for misclassification bias. Greater standardization in reporting ADA accuracy is required in studies using pneumonia ADA for case identification so that results can be properly interpreted.
