Utilization of palliative care in veterans admitted with heart failure experiencing homelessness.
Patients experiencing housing insecurity have numerous barriers affecting their utilization of medical care. ⋯ Housing stability may be a factor in Veterans receiving PC during hospitalization for heart failure. While the logistical challenges of delivering PC and hospice to people experiencing homelessness are daunting, advocating for these services shows commitment to reducing suffering in life-limiting Illness.

ReviewA Review of Race and Ethnicity in Hospice and Palliative Medicine Research: Representation Matters.
Despite documented racial and ethnic disparities in care, there is significant variability in representation, reporting, and analysis of race and ethnic groups in the hospice and palliative medicine (HPM) literature. ⋯ Our findings suggest there are important opportunities to standardize reporting of race and ethnicity, strive for diversity, equity, and inclusion among research participants, and prioritize the study of racial and ethnic disparities in HPM research.

End-of-life costs of cancer patients with Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias in the U.S.
End-of-Life (EOL) care consumes a substantial amount of healthcare resources, especially among older persons with cancer. Having Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD) brings additional complexities to these patients' EOL care. ⋯ Medicare spending at the EOL per beneficiary was not statistically different between cohorts. However, specific types of service (i.e., inpatient, SNF, home health, and hospice) were significantly higher in the ADRD group compared to their non-ADRD counterparts. This study underscored the potential financial burden and informed Medicare about allocation of resources at the EOL.

Music Therapy for Pain in Black and White Cancer Patients: A Retrospective Study.
Racial pain disparities present challenges to cancer symptom management. Music therapy has demonstrated benefits for pain and is a promising treatment option for diverse populations due to music's multicultural presence. However, Black cancer patients are under-represented in music therapy trials. ⋯ Black and white patients reported clinically meaningful pain reduction through varying music therapy approaches. Our findings may help inform cultural adaptations of music therapy to address racial pain disparities in oncology.

ReviewLife Review Intervention: A Systematic Review of Its Feasibility among Persons with Cancer.
Life Review Intervention (LRI) has started to shift in emphasis of focus onto persons with cancer and its effectiveness in improving their psychological well-being. The process has now begin integrating into healthcare settings as a complementary treatment for this population. ⋯ LRI is feasible to be implemented among persons with cancer, given the high acceptability and availability of resources for its implementation. The present review highlighted the preliminary knowledge on the feasibility of the intervention.
