Multicenter StudyPain in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients: A Multicenter Study.
Pain is a common complaint in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients yet is often inadequately assessed and undertreated. ⋯ Pain is common in MHD patients and is significantly associated with female gender, comorbidity, time on dialysis, and depression. Results of this study may serve as a starting point for palliative interventions for MHD patients.

Multicenter Study Comparative Study Observational StudyPalliative Sedation in Terminal Cancer Patients Admitted to Hospice or Home Care Programs: Does the Setting Matter? Results From a National Multicenter Observational Study.
Few studies regarding palliative sedation (PS) have been carried out in home care (HC) setting. A comparison of PS rate and practices between hospice (HS) and HC is also lacking. ⋯ Our results show feasibility of PS in HC and HS and suggest setting differences in rates, indications, and practice of PS, possibly related to patients' selection or care organization.

Multicenter StudyValidation of the Proxy Version of Symptom Screening in Pediatrics Tool in Children Receiving Cancer Treatments.
Primary objectives were to evaluate the interrater reliability and validity of proxy-report Symptom Screening in Pediatrics Tool (SSPedi) in children with cancer and pediatric hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) recipients. Secondary objective was to describe the interrater reliability of each SSPedi item. ⋯ Proxy-report SSPedi is reliable and valid in children aged 8 years to 18 years with cancer and HSCT recipients. Future work should support proxy-reported symptom assessment in clinical settings where children are not able to self-report or communicate bothersome symptoms.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyValidation of the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System: Ascites Modification.
Few patient-reported outcomes are available to measure the symptoms associated with malignant-related ascites in patient care and clinical research. Although the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System: Ascites Modification (ESAS:AM) is a brief tool to measure symptoms associated with malignant-related ascites, it remains to be fully validated. ⋯ The ESAS:AM is a reliable and valid tool for measuring symptoms associated with malignant-related ascites and can be used in daily patient care and future epidemiological studies and clinical trials.

Multicenter StudyMachine Learning Methods to Extract Documentation of Breast Cancer Symptoms From Electronic Health Records.
Clinicians document cancer patients' symptoms in free-text format within electronic health record visit notes. Although symptoms are critically important to quality of life and often herald clinical status changes, computational methods to assess the trajectory of symptoms over time are woefully underdeveloped. ⋯ We demonstrate the potential of machine learning to gather, track, and analyze symptoms experienced by cancer patients during chemotherapy. Although our initial model requires further optimization to improve the performance, further model building may yield machine learning methods suitable to be deployed in routine clinical care, quality improvement, and research applications.
