To assess the utilization of palliative care (PC) and its associated factors among adult cancer patients in Hawassa University Comprehensive Specialized Hospital (HUCSH) oncology center, Hawassa, Ethiopia, 2021. ⋯ The current study revealed two thirds of patients had better utilization of PC services. Older patients with low educational status and income and those living in rural areas had worse access to PC services. It is recommended to improve information provision about PC especially for older patients and patients with low education and to improve accessibility for patients in suburban and rural areas.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
A randomized open label, parallel-group study to evaluate the hemodynamic effects of cafedrine/theodrenaline vs noradrenaline in the treatment of intraoperative hypotension after induction of general anesthesia: the 'HERO' study design and rationale.
Intraoperative arterial hypotension (IOH) is associated with poor patient outcome. This study aims to compare the hemodynamic effects of Cafedrine/Theodrenaline (C/T) and Noradrenaline (NA) for the treatment of hypotension in patients who develop IOH after anesthesia induction. ⋯ This clinical trial will yield evidence for marketing authorization of C/T applied as continuous infusion. Additionally, the effects of C/T compared to NA on cardiac index will be assessed. First results of the "HERO"-study are expected in 2024. DRKS identifier: DRKS00028589. EudraCT identifier: 2021-001954-76.

This study aimed to evaluate the adherence to protocols for the use of reversal agents in direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) users in Dutch hospitals. ⋯ In case of reversal for bleeding under DOAC, overall adherence to the protocol was "moderate"; however, in patients needing an urgent procedure, it was "low." The major reasons for non-adherence were underdosing, off-label use, and a lack of specific lab testing. The results of this study can assist in improving the implementation of hospital protocols.

Antimicrobial use for the management of varicella in Thailand: a retrospective observational study.
To describe the clinical characteristics of varicella patients seeking medical consultation and the use of antimicrobials for their management in Thailand in the absence of universal varicella vaccination (UVV). ⋯ A considerable number of varicella patients, both children and adults, seeking medical consultation in Thai hospitals are prescribed antibiotics and antivirals, with one-fifth of patients being prescribed an antibiotic and almost half prescribed an antiviral. The study may be of interest to policymakers in Thailand and other Asia-Pacific countries considering UVV implementation.

Impact of atrial fibrillation and anticoagulation on the risk of death, thromboembolic disease and bleeding in patients with COVID-19: the ACO-VID Registry.
To describe the clinical profile, risk of complications and impact of anticoagulation in COVID-19 hospitalized patients, according to the presence of atrial fibrillation (AF). ⋯ Among patients hospitalized with COVID-19, patients with AF were older, had more comorbidities and had a higher risk of major bleeding. Age and elevated transaminases during hospitalization, but not AF nor anticoagulant treatment increased the risk of all-cause death.
