The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of Opuntia humifusa (OH) on cerulein-induced acute pancreatitis (AP). ⋯ These results suggest that OH reduces the severity of AP by inhibiting acinar cell death through c-Jun N-terminal kinases.

Prognostic value of histological subtypes of pancreatic intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) has been reported to have conflicting results. The authors investigated the clinicopathological characteristics and prognostic significance of the histological subtypes of IPMNs with various degrees of dysplasia. ⋯ Although histological subtypes are associated with the degree of dysplasia, histological subtypes have limited prognostic value for pancreatic IPMNs.

We aimed to determine if intravenous synthetic human secretin (sHS) improves refractory type B pain in patients with chronic pancreatitis (CP). ⋯ In patients, especially women, with refractory type B pain from CP, intravenous sHS administration demonstrated a trend toward improvement in self-reported pain and opiate use at 30 days after infusion, although statistical significance was not achieved (clinicaltrials.gov registration number NCT01265875).

Atlanta classification divides patients with acute pancreatitis (AP) into mild and severe disease. A 4-category severity classification has been proposed based on the presence or absence of local and systemic determinants, giving rise to mild, moderate, severe, or critical AP. The aim of this study was to validate this new 4-category system of severity classification by examining markers of severity and outcome. ⋯ This prospective case series clinically validated the 4-category classification of AP severity.
