Enhanced Recovery in Mild Acute Pancreatitis: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a leading cause of hospitalization for a gastrointestinal illness in the United States. We hypothesized that enhanced recovery approaches may lead to earlier time to refeeding in patients with AP. ⋯ In this randomized controlled trial, enhanced recovery was safe and effective in promoting earlier time to refeeding in patients hospitalized with AP.

The authors investigated if timing of medical treatment is associated with the analgesic effect of pregabalin or placebo in patients with chronic pancreatitis (CP). ⋯ Pregabalin can be added as adjuvant analgesic at any time point during the disease course of CP.

Impact of prior chemotherapy use on the efficacy of everolimus in patients with advanced pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors: a subgroup analysis of the phase III RADIANT-3 trial.
The aim of this study was to evaluate efficacy and safety of everolimus in patients with pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (pNET) by prior chemotherapy use in the RAD001 in Advanced Neuroendocrine Tumors, Third Trial (RADIANT-3). ⋯ As more treatment options become available, it is important to consider the goals of treatment and to identify patients who would potentially benefit from a specific therapy. Findings from this planned subgroup analysis suggest the potential for first-line use of everolimus in patients with advanced pNET.

Early oral refeeding wisdom in patients with mild acute pancreatitis.
To evaluate the safety and efficacy of early oral refeeding (EORF) in patients with mild acute pancreatitis (AP) and to investigate the optimal duration to commence EORF. ⋯ In patients with mild AP, EORF, with the subjective feeling of hunger, is safe, feasible, and reduces LOH.

Evaluation of early enteral feeding through nasogastric and nasojejunal tube in severe acute pancreatitis: a noninferiority randomized controlled trial.
This study aimed to determine the noninferiority of early enteral feeding through nasogastric (NG) compared to nasojejunal (NJ) route on infectious complications in patients with severe acute pancreatitis (SAP). ⋯ Early enteral feeding through NG was not inferior to NJ in patients with SAP. Infectious complications were within the noninferiority limit. Pain in refeeding, intestinal permeability, and endotoxemia were comparable in both groups.
