Historically, less than half of peer-reviewed abstracts are published. We set out to determine how many pancreas-related abstracts are published within 5 years of presentation at gastroenterology conferences and to determine a model that predicts successful transition from abstract to journal publication. ⋯ It is not clear why only 40% of the pancreas abstracts from 2010 were published 5 years later. Some abstracts may go unpublished because of methodological flaws that escape detection during abstract peer review. Therefore, physicians should use caution when applying abstract data to their clinical decision making.

Ga-DOTATOC (Ga) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) is recommended in the workup of pancreas neuroendocrine tumors (PanNETs); evidence suggests that F-FDG (F) PET/CT can also provide prognostic information. Aims of this study were to assess the role of combined Ga- and F-PET/CT in the evaluation of grade (G) 1-2 PanNETs and to test the correlation between F-PET/CT positivity and tumor grade. ⋯ The high sensitivity of Ga-PET/CT in NET detection is known. The high PPV of F-PET/CT in the identification of G2 forms suggests its potential role in PanNETs prognostication and risk stratification.

Pediatric patients with acute pancreatitis (AP) may meet criteria at admission for the systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS). Early SIRS in adults with AP is associated with severe disease. Our aim was to evaluate the importance of SIRS in children presenting with AP on various outcomes. ⋯ The presence of SIRS criteria on admission serves as a useful and easy-to-calculate predictor of increased LOS and admission to ICU in children with AP.

Treatment Strategy for Borderline Resectable Pancreatic Cancer With Radiographic Artery Involvement.
We evaluated whether neoadjuvant therapy followed by surgical resection improves the clinical outcome for patients with borderline resectable pancreatic cancer with radiologic artery involvement (BRPC-A). ⋯ Neoadjuvant treatment followed by surgery might provide clinical benefits for BRPC-A patients; however, the establishment of the most appropriate neoadjuvant therapy is needed by further studies.

The aim of this study was to reappraise the clinical role of total pancreatectomy with curative intent in patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). ⋯ The surgical outcome of total pancreatectomy for patients with PDAC is acceptable. When margin-negative resection is expected, total pancreatectomy should not be abandoned in the modern era.
