Observational StudyPredictive factors for the outcome of high flow nasal cannula therapy in a pediatric intensive care unit: Is the SpO2/FiO2 ratio useful?
To determine the predictive factors for the outcome of high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) therapy in a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). ⋯ Monitoring the S/F ratio might be useful and practical to avoid delaying escalation to another ventilation support. Failure to achieve S/F>200 at 60min should be a warning for the escalation of respiratory support.

Observational StudyCentral venous pressure and ultrasonographic measurement correlation and their associations with intradialytic adverse events in hospitalized patients: A prospective observational study.
To investigate correlation of central venous pressure (CVP) with ultrasonographic measurement of central veins, along with association between these variables and occurrence of intradialytic adverse events in hospitalized patients. ⋯ Highest accuracy in predicting low and high CVP was observed with ultrasonographic assessment of IVC diameter and collapsibility. Adverse events were not predicted by pre-dialytic CVP or ultrasonographic measurements.

Patterns of C-reactive protein ratio response to antibiotics in pediatric sepsis: A prospective cohort study.
Evaluate sequential C-reactive protein (CRP) measurements and patterns of CRP-ratio response to antibiotic therapy during first 7days in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) of septic children. ⋯ In pediatric sepsis, CRP-ratio serial evaluation was useful in early identification of patients with poor outcome.

Observational StudyProcalcitonin accurately predicts lung transplant adults with low risk of pulmonary graft dysfunction and intensive care mortality.
We evaluated the association of procalcitonin (PCT), IL-6-8-10 plasma levels during the first 72h after lung transplantation (LT) with ICU-mortality, oxygenation, primary graft dysfunction (PGD), and one-year graft function after LT. ⋯ A breakpoint of PCT<2ng/mL within 24h has a high predictive value to exclude grade 3 PGD at 72h and for ICU survival. Moreover, both PCT and IL-10 within 48h were associated with significantly better graft function one year after surgery.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyThe study of vitamin D administration effect on CRP and Interleukin-6 as prognostic biomarkers of ventilator associated pneumonia.
In regard with the effect of immune-stimulants in the treatment of infectious diseases, the effect of vitamin D administration on the outcome of patients with Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP) with a high rate of mortality, was studied. ⋯ Our results indicate that vitamin D administration can significantly reduce the IL-6 as prognostic marker in VAP patients, and must be considered as adjunct option in the treatment of VAP patients.
