Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial
Comparison of sevoflurane and propofol for ambulatory anaesthesia in gynaecological surgery.
To analyse the cost-efficiency ratio of sevoflurane compared with propofol for gynaecological ambulatory anaesthesia. ⋯ Ambulatory anaesthesia with sevoflurane offers a good alternative to propofol but further investigation concerning blood loss with sevoflurane needs to be performed in gynaecological practice.

Aging prolongs recovery of psychomotor functions at emergence from propofol-alfentanil anaesthesia.
To compare recovery of psychomotor function in elderly and young surgical patients at emergence from propofol-alfentanil anaesthesia. ⋯ Psychomotor performance is impaired in elderly compared with young patients at emergence from propofol-alfentanil anaesthesia. These differences are not likely to be related to propofol accumulation in elderly subjects.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial
Endotracheal administration of lidocaine inhibits isoflurane-induced tachycardia.
Rapid increase in inspired isoflurane concentration increases heart rate and arterial blood pressure. To investigate whether the responses to isoflurane were elicited from stimulation of lower airway and/or lungs, haemodynamic responses to isoflurane administered after tracheal intubation were measured with or without endotracheal or intravenous administration of lidocaine. ⋯ The isoflurane-induced tachycardia is reduced by pre-treatment with endotracheal lidocaine.
