Addition of femoral 3-in-1 blockade to intra-articular ropivacaine 0.2% does not reduce analgesic requirements following arthroscopic knee surgery.
To test the hypothesis that the addition of a preincisional femoral 3-in-1 block to intra-articular instillation with ropivacaine 0.2% at the end of surgery improves postoperative pain control in patients undergoing arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) under general anesthesia. ⋯ We found no effect of a femoral 3-in-1 block with ropivacaine 0.2% on postoperative analgesic consumption, compared to intra-articular instillation with ropivacaine 0.2% alone, in patients undergoing ACLR under general anesthesia.

Midazolam premedication delays recovery from propofol-induced sevoflurane anesthesia in children 1-3 yr.
To study the effect of midazolam premedication on the recovery characteristics of sevoflurane anesthesia induced with propofol in pediatric outpatients. ⋯ Oral premedication with midazolam delays early recovery but not discharge after ambulatory sevoflurane anesthesia induced with propofol in children one to three years. Midazolam did not improve the quality of recovery.

Epidural tramadol for postoperative pain after Cesarean section.
To compare the post-operative analgesic effect of 100 mg vs 200 mg epidural tramadol and saline in patients undergoing elective Cesarean section. ⋯ Epidural tramadol 100 mg can provide adequate postoperative analgesia without respiratory depression in patients after Cesarean delivery.

Post discharge nausea and vomiting after ambulatory laparoscopy is not reduced by promethazine prophylaxis.
To determine the incidence of post-discharge nausea and vomiting (PDNV) following outpatient laparoscopic procedures in women, and to assess the efficacy of the prophylactic administration of promethazine prior to discharge from hospital. ⋯ Despite the prophylactic administration of 0.5 mg droperidol i.v., patients undergoing ambulatory laparoscopic surgery reported a high incidence of nausea after discharge. Patients requiring antiemetics in the PAR were at higher risk for PDNV. The incidence of nausea was not altered by prophylactic administration of 0.6 mg x kg(-1) promethazine i.m. before discharge.

Rectal indomethacin reduces postoperative pain and morphine use after cardiac surgery.
To evaluate the combination of rectal indomethacin with patient controlled intravenous morphine analgesia (PCA) on postoperative pain relief and opioid use after cardiac surgery. ⋯ The combination of indomethacin with morphine after cardiac surgery results in reduced postoperative pain scores and opioid use without an increase in side effects.
