To describe the influence of sevoflurane anesthesia on cisatracurium neuromuscular block in a myasthenic patient undergoing thymectomy. ⋯ The marked sensitivity of this myasthenic patient to 0.5 x ED95 of cisatracurium can be attributed to potentiation of cisatracurium neuromuscular block by sevoflurane, as evidenced by the reappearance of the first twitch of the train-of-four response 10 min after sevoflurane was discontinued.

To estimate the efficacy and harm produced by droperidol in the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). ⋯ Droperidol is anti-emetic in the surgical setting. The effect on nausea is short-lived but more pronounced than the effect on vomiting. Sedation and drowsiness are dose-dependent, extrapyramidal symptoms are rare, and there is a protective effect against headache.

To review the clinical benefits of dextromethorphan (DM) in pain management, describe its neuropharmacological properties. ⋯ DM attenuates acute pain sensation with tolerable side effects. Its availability in oral form bestow advantages over other NMDA antagonists.

To compare the spinal-epidural spread of gas following loss of resistance (LOR) technique for detection of the epidural space using air or nitrous oxide (N2O). ⋯ The use of N2O for LOR technique of detecting the epidural space produced very small bubbles detected by MRI compared with the use of air under similar conditions.

To evaluate median nerve somatosensory evoked responses during recovery from anesthesia in relation to clinical findings. ⋯ The reversibility of anesthetic induced changes in amplitudes and latencies of median nerve somatosensory evoked responses reflected clinical awakening during emergence from isoflurane/nitrous oxide anesthesia. In the patients who had recall for the immediate recovery period, the reversibility of anesthetic induced changes of components P45 and N50 was faster than in patients without recall.
