Evaluation of Teicoplanin Trough Values After the Recommended Loading Dose in Children With Associated Safety Analysis.
This study evaluated whether the recommended teicoplanin loading dose (3 loading doses of 10 mg/kg every 12 hours) achieves a 15-30 μg/mL trough levels in 26 children (2-16 years). In addition, we examined the incidences of renal impairment and hepatic dysfunction in children treated with teicoplanin. ⋯ The recommended loading dose may be insufficient to achieve 15-30 μg/mL in children with normal renal function. In addition, the target trough level ≥20 μg/mL for deep-seated infections seems to be safe in children.

Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation-Associated Bloodstream Infections In Children.
This was a case-control study of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation cases spanning 5 years. Bloodstream infection (BSI) occurred in 12/207 subjects, with Candida spp.-4, Pseudomonas spp.-2 and Staphylococcal spp.-2 being predominant. ⋯ Exposure to broad spectrum antibiotics was common in both BSI and control patients. Prophylactic antimicrobials did not decrease the risk of BSI.

Added Value of IP-10 as a Read-Out of Mycobacterium tuberculosis: Specific Immunity in Young Children.
We have explored the added value of interferon-γ (IFNγ)-inducible protein 10 as a read-out of Mycobacterium tuberculosis-specific immunity in young Indian children, where the sensitivity of the IFNγ release assays for tuberculosis is poor. Reduced frequency of indeterminate results and an increased sensitivity for tuberculosis suggest a potential for fewer missed cases with a combined IFNγ/inducible protein 10 read-out in a 4th generation IFNγ release assays.

Randomized Controlled TrialImmunogenicity and Safety of Yellow Fever Vaccine (Stamaril) When Administered Concomitantly With a Tetravalent Dengue Vaccine Candidate in Healthy Toddlers at 12-13 Months of Age in Colombia and Peru: A Randomized Trial.
Dengue and yellow fever (YF) viruses are closely related members of the Flaviviridae family. Given the inherent similarities between the YF vaccine and dengue vaccine (CYD-TDV) candidate, it is possible that the latter could interfere with the response to the licensed YF vaccine when coadministered. ⋯ Concomitant administration of YF vaccine with CYD-TDV has no relevant impact on the immunogenicity or safety profile of the YF vaccine.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyA Multicenter, Randomized, Observer-blinded, Active-controlled Study Evaluating the Safety and Effectiveness of Ceftaroline Compared With Ceftriaxone Plus Vancomycin in Pediatric Patients With Complicated Community-acquired Bacterial Pneumonia.
The broad-spectrum cephalosporin ceftaroline, a metabolite of the prodrug ceftaroline fosamil, has shown in vitro activity against clinical isolates from pediatric patients. ⋯ Ceftaroline fosamil was well tolerated and showed similar clinical response rates to ceftriaxone plus vancomycin in pediatric patients with complicated community-acquired bacterial pneumonia.
