Review Case ReportsNeonatal meningoencephalitis caused by Bacillus cereus.
The classic organisms associated with central nervous system infection in the neonate are herpes simplex, Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli, and Streptococcus agalactiae; we describe an unusual case of neonatal meningoencephalitis caused by Bacillus cereus.

Meropenem pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and Monte Carlo simulation in the neonate.
Hospitalized neonates are exposed to antibiotic-resistant bacterial pathogens and develop nosocomial infections. Limited data are available regarding the neonatal pharmacokinetics of meropenem, a broad spectrum carbapenem antibiotic. ⋯ MCS based on PPK determinations demonstrated that a meropenem dose of 20 mg/kg every 8 hours should provide adequate therapy for most nosocomial Gram-negative pathogens.

Comparative StudyClinical characteristics of human bocavirus infections compared with other respiratory viruses in Spanish children.
Human bocavirus (HBoV) can be found in a substantial proportion of children with respiratory tract diseases. The relative importance of HBoV in viral respiratory tract illnesses is not yet well known. ⋯ HBoV was the fourth most frequent single virus after RSV, rhinovirus, and adenovirus in children hospitalized because of respiratory infection. It was associated with recurrent wheezing and bronchiolitis showing a different clinical course from other virus in terms of diagnosis, fever, and age.

Randomized Controlled TrialImmunogenicity and safety assessments after one and two doses of a refrigerator-stable tetravalent measles-mumps-rubella-varicella vaccine in healthy children during the second year of life.
Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) and varicella (V) vaccines are often coadministered at 1 clinic visit. This study (104389/NCT00127023) was undertaken to assess the immunogenicity and safety of a new refrigerator-stable tetravalent MMRV vaccine after 1 dose and after 2 doses administered during the second year of life. ⋯ Both after 1 dose and after 2 doses, the MMRV vaccine was at least as immunogenic as concomitant MMR and varicella vaccination suggesting that it could be suitable for use according to current vaccination schedules.
