Randomized Controlled TrialThe Effect of Aromatherapy on Sleep Quality and Fatigue Level of the Elderly: A Randomized Controlled Study.
This randomized controlled experimental study was conducted to determine the effect of inhaled aromatherapy on the sleep quality and fatigue level of the institutionalized elderly. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 59 elderly individuals (30 in the intervention group and 29 in the control group) who met the inclusion criteria and agreed to participate in the study. Aromatherapy (lavender oil) inhalation was administered to individuals in the intervention group half hour before their sleep every day for a month in accordance with aromatherapy protocol. ⋯ Forms were completed in the beginning of administration and in the follow-up at the end of 4 weeks (baseline and last follow-up). In the study, it was determined that aromatherapy administration improved sleep quality (P < .001) and decreased fatigue severity in the elderly (P < .05). The study should be replicated in a different group.

Randomized Controlled TrialComparison of the Effects of Benson Muscle Relaxation and Nature Sounds on the Fatigue in Patients With Heart Failure: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial.
This study was conducted with the aim of comparing the effects of Benson muscle relaxation and nature sounds on fatigue in patients with heart failure. Fatigue and exercise intolerance as prevalent symptoms experienced by patients with heart failure can cause the loss of independence in the activities of daily living. It can also damage self-care and increase dependence to others, which subsequently can reduce the quality of life. ⋯ However, no statistically significant difference was observed between the interventions. Benson muscle relaxation and nature sounds are alternative methods for the reduction of fatigue in patients with heart failure. They are inexpensive and easy to be administered and upon patients' preferences can be used by nurses along with routine nursing interventions.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of Reiki on Pain, Anxiety, and Blood Pressure in Patients Undergoing Knee Replacement: A Pilot Study.
This blinded, controlled pilot study investigated the effects of Reiki on 46 patients undergoing knee replacement surgery. Of the 3 groups, Reiki, Sham Reiki, and Standard of Care, only the Reiki group showed significant reductions in pain, blood pressure, respiration rate, and state anxiety, which provides evidence for a full-scale clinical study.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of Reiki on Pain and Vital Signs When Applied to the Incision Area of the Body After Cesarean Section Surgery: A Single-Blinded, Randomized, Double-Controlled Study.
This study was conducted to determine the effects of Reiki on pain and vital signs when applied for 15 minutes to the incision area of the body after cesarean section surgery. The study was single-blinded, randomized, and double-controlled (Reiki, sham Reiki, and control groups). Forty-five patients, equalized by age and number of births, were randomly assigned to the Reiki, sham Reiki, and control groups. ⋯ Mean breathing rate and systolic blood pressure measurement values were significantly different from each other according to groups (P < .05). The Reiki group was observed to use fewer analgesics throughout the study and to need them after a longer time than the sham Reiki and control groups (P < .05). It was concluded that Reiki applied for 15 minutes to the incision area after a cesarean operation had the expected effects on pain and the need for the use of analgesics, but it had no effect on vital signs.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe Use of ShotBlocker for Reducing the Pain and Anxiety Associated With Intramuscular Injection: A Randomized, Placebo Controlled Study.
There are few studies evaluating the effect of ShotBlocker on pain acquired from intramuscular injection, and these are mostly in children. We hypothesized that the use of ShotBlocker, while administering an intramuscular injection, would reduce the pain and anxiety due to intramuscular injection in adults. A randomized, placebo controlled trial was carried out for more than 20 months in 2010-2011 on 180 adults aged 18 to 80 years who received intramuscular injections of diclofenac sodium (75 mg/3 mL) at the outpatient clinic of a hospital. ⋯ ShotBlocker did not affect the pulse rate. Our results suggest that using ShotBlocker during intramuscular injection reduced patients' pain intensity because of injection but did not reduce anxiety levels. Thus, ShotBlocker is recommended as a pain-relieving tool during intramuscular injection in adults.
