Blood Pressure Curve for Children Less than 10 Years of Age: Findings from the Ewha Birth and Growth Cohort Study.
Routine blood pressure (BP) measurement is recommended to begin at 3 years of age, but there are no national BP reference values for Korean children less than 7 years of age. Therefore, we developed sex-, age-, and height-specific BP reference values for non-overweight children aged 3-9 years. ⋯ Although further research is needed, our findings could be used to help identify high BP in children less than 10 years of age.

Virtual Anatomical and Endoscopic Exploration Method of Internal Human Body for Training Simulator.
Virtual environments have brought the use of realistic training closer to many different fields of education. In medical education, several visualization methods for studying inside the human body have been introduced as a way to verify the structure of internal organs. However, these methods are insufficient for realistic training simulators because they do not provide photorealistic scenes or offer an intuitive perception to the user. In addition, they are used in limited environments within a classroom setting. ⋯ Our training simulator would be helpful in training medical students because it provides an immersive environment.

Extracting Structured Genotype Information from Free-Text HLA Reports Using a Rule-Based Approach.
Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) typing is important for transplant patients to prevent a severe mismatch reaction, and the result can also support the diagnosis of various disease or prediction of drug side effects. However, such secondary applications of HLA typing results are limited because they are typically provided in free-text format or PDFs on electronic medical records. We here propose a method to convert HLA genotype information stored in an unstructured format into a reusable structured format by extracting serotype/allele information. ⋯ The rule-based HLA genotype extraction method shows reliable accuracy. We believe that there are significant number of patients who takes profit when this under-used genetic information will be return to them.

Healthcare personnel (HCP) are at risk of being exposed to or transmitting infections in hospitals, and vaccination against vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) is a well-known preventive strategy. Vaccination against influenza, hepatitis B virus, measles-mumps-rubella, varicella, and pertussis is recommended for HCP. However, there is no information on the current status of hospitals' vaccination policies for HCP in Korea. ⋯ Despite the recommendations on vaccination for HCP, the vaccination policies for HCP differ in hospitals and appear to be insufficient to protect HCP and prevent nosocomial transmission. Strong leadership of each hospital to protect HCP and financial support from the government are required to implement appropriate vaccination policies in hospitals.

Implementation of Asthma Management Guidelines and Possible Barriers in Korea.
There could be a gap between asthma management guidelines and current practice. We evaluated the awareness of and compliance with asthma management guidelines, and the internal and external barriers to compliance, for the first time in Korea. ⋯ Compliance with the asthma management guidelines, including ICS prescription, is low despite the awareness of the guidelines. It is necessary to develop a strategy to overcome the internal and external barriers.
