Preoperative Prognostic Nutritional Index Is a Prognostic Indicator of Cancer-Specific Survival in Patients Undergoing Endometrial Cancer Surgery.
The prognostic nutritional index (PNI) reflects systemic inflammation and nutritional status. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of preoperative PNI on postoperative cancer-specific survival in patients with endometrial cancer (EC). ⋯ High preoperative PNI was associated with improved postoperative cancer-specific survival in patients undergoing surgery for EC.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyEfficacy of Acetylcysteine and Selenium in Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Patients: A Prospective, Multicenter, Single Blind Randomized Controlled Trial.
Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) patients have oxidative stress results in inflammation, tissue degeneration and neuronal damage. These deleterious effects cause aggravation of the perihematomal edema (PHE), vasospasm, and even hydrocephalus. We hypothesized that antioxidants may have a neuroprotective role in acute aneurysmal SAH (aSAH) patients. ⋯ In conclusion, antioxidant treatment failed to show the reduction of PHE volume, mid-line shifting, vasospasm and hydrocephalus in acute SAH patients. A significant reduction in ICU stay was observed but need more optimal dosing schedule and precise outcome targets are required to clarify the clinical impacts of antioxidants in these patients.

Developing and Establishing a Wound Dressing Team: Experience and Recommendations.
The existing literature has comprehensively examined the benefits of specialized wound-care services and multidisciplinary team care. However, information on the development and integration of wound-dressing teams for patients who do not require specialized wound care is scarce. Therefore, the present study aimed to elucidate the benefits of a wound-dressing team by reporting our experiences with the establishment of a wound-dressing team. ⋯ The wound dressing team can enhance satisfaction among patients and healthcare providers with low complications. Our findings may provide a potential framework for establishing similar service models.

Decrease of Muscle Mass in Young Patients With Neuromuscular Disease: Assessment of Sarcopenia.
Sarcopenia can be associated with the disease etiologies other than degenerative processes, such as neurologic disease including cerebral palsy, myelomeningocele, or Duchenne muscular dystrophy, even in children. Although the relationship between neurologic disease and scoliosis or ambulatory function is known, the mediators affecting scoliosis or gait function in these patients are unclear, an example might be sarcopenia. This study aimed to assess the degree of sarcopenia in young patients with neurologic diseases using computed tomography (CT), and analyze the correlation between sarcopenia and scoliosis or ambulatory function. ⋯ Patients with neurologic diseases could have sarcopenia even in young age. Psoas muscle volume was also associated with ambulatory function in these patients. Sarcopenia was more severe in severe scoliosis patients in the non-ambulatory subgroup.

Medial Arterial Calcification and the Risk of Amputation of Diabetic Foot Ulcer in Patients With Diabetic Kidney Disease.
We assessed the risk factors for major amputation of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) in patients with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) stages 3b-5. For DFU assessment, in addition to DFU location and presence of infection, ischemia, and neuropathy, vascular calcification was assessed using the medial arterial calcification (MAC) score. Of 210 patients, 26 (12.4%) underwent major amputations. ⋯ However, after adjusting for covariates, ulcer location of mid- or hindfoot (vs. forefoot, odds ratio [OR] = 3.27), Texas grades 2 or 3 (vs. grade 0, OR = 5.78), and severe MAC (vs. no MAC, OR = 4.46) was an independent risk factor for major amputation (all P < 0.05). The current use of antiplatelets was a possible protective factor for major amputations (OR = 0.37, P = 0.055). In conclusion, DFU with severe MAC is associated with major amputation in patients with DKD.
