Development of Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Patients with Glycogen Storage Disease: a Single Center Retrospective Study.
Glycogen storage disease (GSD) is an inherited disorder leading to abnormal glucose metabolism and glycogen accumulation, and is associated with various complications including hepatic adenoma and hepatocellular carcinoma. The aim of this study was to analyze the risk factors for hepatic adenoma and its malignant change, and the hepatocellular carcinoma-free survival rate in patients with GSD who developed adenoma. ⋯ The present study found that portacaval shunt operation increases the risk of development of hepatic adenoma in GSD patients, especially in GSD type I. The hepatic adenoma in GSD patients has a potential of malignant transformation, which should be keep in mind in follow-up process of the disease.

Meta AnalysisIncidence of Hypotension after Discontinuation of Norepinephrine or Arginine Vasopressin in Patients with Septic Shock: a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
There has been no consensus regarding the discontinuation order of vasopressors in patients recovering from septic shock treated with concomitant norepinephrine (NE) and arginine vasopressin (AVP). The aim of this study was to compare the incidence of hypotension within 24 hours based on whether NE or AVP was discontinued first in order to determine the optimal sequence for discontinuation of vasopressors. ⋯ Discontinuing NE prior to AVP was associated with a lower incidence of hypotension in patients recovering from septic shock. However, our results should be interpreted with caution, due to the considerable between-study heterogeneity.

Cognitive Outcomes of Children with Very Low Birth Weight at 3 to 5 Years of Age.
The cognitive consequences and risk factors based long-term outcome of very-low-birth-weight (VLBW; < 1,500 g) infants in Korea has not been studied. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of perinatal and neonatal risk factors on the cognitive performance of VLBW children at 3 to 5 years of age. ⋯ Fifteen of 88 (17%) of the VLBW children had a below-average FSIQ (< 85). VLBW with IUGR is associated with poor cognitive outcomes at the mean age of 4.5 years.

Relationship between Cardiac Geometry and Serum Hepcidin in Chronic Kidney Disease: Analysis from the KNOW-CKD Study.
Few studies have examined the relationship between cardiac function and geometry and serum hepcidin levels in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). We aimed to identify the relationship between cardiac function and geometry and serum hepcidin levels. ⋯ Although the relationship was not cause-and-effect, increased RWT was independently associated with high serum hepcidin, particularly in women and patients with low TSAT. The relationship between cardiac geometry and serum hepcidin in CKD patients needs to be confirmed in future studies.

Long-Term Outcomes in Patients Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention with or without Preprocedural Exercise Stress Test.
Although current guidelines recommend noninvasive stress tests prior to elective percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), it is unknown whether antecedent exercise stress test (EST) affects the outcomes of patients undergoing PCI for stable ischemic heart disease (SIHD). This study aimed to investigate long-term outcomes in patients undergoing elective PCI with or without EST. ⋯ Patients who underwent elective PCI with EST had a reduced risk of all-cause death or MI than those undergoing PCI without stress tests.
