Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of gabapentin on postoperative pain, nausea and vomiting after abdominal hysterectomy: a double blind randomized clinical trial.
Gabapentin has demonstrated analgesic effects in some studies. This double blind randomized clinical trial (RCT) was conducted to evaluate whether the pre-emptive use of gabapentin 600 mg could reduce postoperative pain, nausea and vomiting, and meperidine consumption in patients after hysterectomy. ⋯ Pre-emptive use of gabapentin 600 mg orally, significantly decreases postoperative pain and PONV, and also rescues analgesic and anti emetic drug requirements in patients who undergo abdominal hysterectomy.

Randomized Controlled TrialComparison of efficacy of letrozole and clomiphene citrate in ovulation induction in Indian women with polycystic ovarian syndrome.
The objective of this study was to compare the efficacy of letrozole versus clomiphene citrate as an ovulation induction drug in polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) patients of Indian origin. ⋯ Letrozole has beneficial effect on endometrium, thereby potentially increasing pregnancy rates after successful ovulation induction in women with PCOS.

Clinical TrialRole of hysteroscopy in the detection of endometrial pathologies in women presenting with postmenopausal bleeding and thickened endometrium.
The goal of this study was to define the diagnostic value of hysteroscopy in evaluating uterine cavity compared to endometrial biopsy in women presenting with postmenopausal bleeding and thick endometrial mucosa with particular attention to endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma. ⋯ Hysteroscopy can be used as the first line diagnostic tool for evaluating the benign endometrial lesions, such as endometrial polyp and submucosal myoma, nonetheless hysteroscopy has poor validity for excluding endometrial hyperplasia and cancer in women presenting with the postmenopausal bleeding and thick endometrium.

ReviewPeripartum use of cell salvage: a university practice audit and literature review.
Obstetrical hemorrhage is the second leading cause of direct maternal mortality (18% of maternal deaths) in developed countries and is the leading cause of severe maternal morbidity. The rising rate of obstetrical hemorrhage attributed to the repeated cesarean sections and invasive placental disorders, requiring blood transfusion has emphasized the need for alternatives to allogeneic blood donation. ⋯ Using our combined medical records, we found that IOCS is a rapid method of blood replacement that allows blood bank service recruitment and presents no adverse reaction to the parturient. However, this sophisticated system is appropriate for tertiary surgical centers and its routine use should be assessed by national medical boards.

Uterine packing during cesarean section in the management of intractable hemorrhage in central placenta previa.
To determine the safety and effectiveness of uterine packing in the management of intractable hemorrhage during cesarean section for central placenta previa. ⋯ Uterine packing is a safe and effective technique in the control of intractable hemorrhage in cesarean section. It is a reasonable alternative to further surgical intervention in patients with intractable obstetric hemorrhage, especially in developing countries.
