Patient navigation for traumatic brain injury promotes community re-integration and reduces re-hospitalizations.
To determine the effectiveness of a Navigation programme for patients with traumatic brain injury. ⋯ This study begins to highlight the effectiveness of a patient navigation programme for individuals with TBI. Future research with a larger sample will continue to help us refine patient navigation for chronic disabling conditions and determine its sustainability.

The purpose of this paper is to review the clinical and research utility and applications of blood, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and cerebral microdialysis biomarkers in traumatic brain injury (TBI). ⋯ The identification of biofluid biomarkers could play a vital role in identifying, diagnosing, and treating the underlying individual pathobiological changes of TBI. CNS-derived exosomes analyzed by ultra-high sensitivity detection methods have the potential to identify blood biomarkers for the range of TBI severity and time course.

Staged residential post-acute rehabilitation for adults following acquired brain injury: A comparison of functional gains rated on the UK Functional Assessment Measure (UK FIM+FAM) and the Mayo-Portland Adaptability Inventory (MPAI-4).
To compare the UK Functional Assessment Measure (UK FIM+FAM) and Mayo-Portland Adaptability Inventory (MPAI-4) as measures of functional change in patients with brain injury receiving a staged residential post-acute community-based rehabilitation programme. ⋯ The UK FIM+FAM and MPAI-4 provide complementary evaluation across functional tasks ranging from self-care to participation. This study supports their use for longitudinal outcome evaluation in community residential rehabilitation services that take patients at different stages of recovery.

Neuropsychological test validity in Veterans presenting with subjective complaints of 'very severe' cognitive symptoms following mild traumatic brain injury.
This study explored the utility of combining data from measures of performance validity and symptom validity among Veterans undergoing neuropsychological evaluation for mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). ⋯ Veterans with suspected mTBI who report 'very severe' cognitive impairment have a greater likelihood of putting forth sub-optimal effort on objective testing.

Preliminary investigation of Brain Network Activation (BNA) and its clinical utility in sport-related concussion.
The clinical diagnosis and management of patients with sport-related concussion is largely dependent on subjectively reported symptoms, clinical examinations, cognitive, balance, vestibular and oculomotor testing. Consequently, there is an unmet need for objective assessment tools that can identify the injury from a physiological perspective and add an important layer of information to the clinician's decision-making process. ⋯ The data support the utility of BNA to augment clinical examinations, symptoms and additional tests by providing an effective method for evaluating objective electrophysiological changes associated with sport-related concussions.
