To evaluate whether National Institute of Child Health and Human Health and Development (NICHD) fetal heart rate categories were predictive of neonatal survival in periviable pregnancies. ⋯ The NICHD fetal heart rate category during labor may be associated with survival for infants born at 23 and 24 weeks of gestation. Cesarean delivery was not associated with improved survival.

Comparative Study
Atosiban vs. ritodrine as a tocolytic in external cephalic version at term: a prospective cohort study.
To compare the success rate of external cephalic version (ECV) at term using ritodrine or atosiban as a tocolytic agent. ⋯ Ritodrine seems better than atosiban as tocolytic agent for ECVs.

Randomized Controlled Trial
A randomized trial of cerclage vs. 17 alpha-hydroxyprogesterone caproate for treatment of short cervix.
To determine pregnancy outcome in patients with short cervix on transvaginal ultrasound between 16 and 24 weeks' gestation treated with McDonald cerclage compared to weekly intramuscular injections of 17 alpha-hydroxyprogesterone caproate (17OHP-C). ⋯ Women with CL < or =25 mm in the second-trimester appear to have similar risks of delivering prior to 35 weeks' gestation when treated with 17OHP-C or McDonald cerclage. However, cerclage may be more effective in preventing spontaneous PTB in women with CL< or =15 mm.

To investigate whether end-tidal CO(2) monitoring is useful for more rapid recognition of tracheal vs. esophageal intubation as compared to standard clinical evaluation in very low birth weight infants during neonatal resuscitation at birth. ⋯ Exhaled CO(2) detection is a sensitive and accurate technique to confirm tracheal tube placement in very low birth weight infants during neonatal resuscitation.
