Initial multicentre experience using the neuroform atlas stent for the treatment of un-ruptured saccular cerebral aneurysms.
Purpose: The Neuroform Atlas is a self-expandable and low-profiled stent that is used for aneurysm neck scaffolding and has been recently approved for clinical practice in Korea. We present our initial experiences of endovascular coiling using the Neuroform Atlas stent. Materials and methods: All cerebral aneurysms treated by stent-assisted coiling with a Neuroform atlas stent in two institutions between February and May 2018 were retrospectively evaluated. ⋯ Angiographic follow-up data at a mean of 4.8 months were available for 51/54 (94.4%) aneurysms. Among them, 27 aneurysms (52.9%) were stable, 20 aneurysms (39.2%) showed progressive occlusion and 4 aneurysms showed an increased modified Raymond Roy occlusion classification score (only one of these patients was included in the recanalization criteria). Conclusion: Our findings suggest the Neuroform Atlas stent can be useful for the coiling of cerebral aneurysms without significant complications regardless of aneurysm location.

Undergraduate neurosurgical conferences - what role do they play?
Undergraduate student conferences provide networking opportunities for students interested in exploring a speciality. The ability to meet with like-minded students, engage with senior clinicians and experience the practical side of a speciality are valuable in shaping the career trajectory of undergraduates. We report our experience of developing a national undergraduate neurosurgery conference - a combined project between the medical students of King's College London School of Medicine and the neurosurgery department at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. ⋯ Student conferences are a valuable method of increasing exposure to a career in neurosurgery. They serve a great purpose in demystifying the specialty and guiding those with an interest through the steps required to enter and progress.

Epidemiology of ventriculostomy in the United States from 1997 to 2001.
Ventriculostomy is a common practice in neurosurgery, but the annual trend of this procedure in the United States has not been reported in the literature. This study evaluates the annual trend during a recent 5-year period. Between 1997 and 2001, a retrospective review was undertaken concerning all patients in the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) who had undergone ventriculostomy. ⋯ Patient and hospital demographic characteristics were consistent during the study period. By extrapolation of the data, the prevalence of ventriculostomy in the United States averaged 24,380 per year. This study is the first to comprehensively document data concerning the epidemiology of this common procedure.

The investigation of acute severe headache suggestive of probable subarachnoid haemorrhage: a hospital-based study.
We reviewed the diagnostic approach to patients presenting with headache suggestive of subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) and normal cranial imaging, both locally and using a questionnaire, in other units throughout the United Kingdom. We emphasize the correct timing of cranial imaging and lumbar puncture (LP), the importance of proceeding to LP and utilizing spectrophotometry in patients with normal cranial imaging, and the appropriate use of angiography.
