Lactoferrin is an iron-binding glycoprotein. Enteral lactoferrin attenuates myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury, but the underlying mechanism remains unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate protein kinase A (PKA) signaling pathway activation and levels of serum glucagonlike peptide-1 (GLP-1), secreted by intestinal endocrine L cells, and adiponectin, secreted by adipose tissue, after enteral lactoferrin administration. ⋯ Enteral lactoferrin induces cardioprotective effects against myocardial IR injury via the PKA signaling pathway and increases serum GLP-1 levels.

Inflammation plays an important role in migraine development. Dietary interventions that reduce the inflammatory state are effective for migraine prophylaxis. However, little is yet known about the association between the inflammatory potential of diet and migraine in the general US adult population. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the inflammatory potential of diet is associated with severe headache or migraine in US adults. ⋯ The inflammatory potential of the diet is associated with severe headache or migraine in US adults.

The aim of the present study was to examine the dose-response relationship between trunk tissue composition and prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in middle-aged Japanese men. ⋯ Increase in IntraMAT content, not in skeletal muscle CSA, significantly correlated with the prevalence of MetS. These results suggest that countermeasures against the accumulation of trunk IntraMAT effectively prevent MetS in middle-aged Japanese men.
