Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), previously known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), is a seriously increasing liver disorder affecting nearly 32% of adults globally. Hepatic triglycerides (TG) accumulation is the hallmark of MASLD, which results from dysregulated lipid and fatty acid uptake, increased de novo lipogenesis (DNL), and decreased lipid removal. More recently, selective autophagy of lipid droplets (LDs), termed lipophagy, has emerged to be closely associated with disrupted hepatic lipid homeostasis. ⋯ Therefore, lipophagy could be a new approach for natural products to be used to improve MASLD. This article aims to provide a comprehensive overview on the interrelationship between dysregulated lipid metabolism, lipophagy, and MASLD pathogenesis. In addition, the role of some natural products as lipophagy modulators and their impact on MASLD will be discussed.

Comparative Study
Assessing clinical and metabolic responses related to hyperlipidemia, MASLD and type 2 diabetes: sleeve versus RYGB.
Both Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) are effective at inducing weight loss, but more information is needed on their comparative effectiveness at improving clinical/biochemical outcomes related to the presence of hyperlipidemia, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), or type 2 diabetes (T2D) at baseline. Here we aimed to assess this in real-world practice. ⋯ RYGB versus LSG leads to greater reductions in body mass index and lipid parameters, especially in those with hyperlipidemia, whereas LSG showed greater improvements in liver enzymes in those with MASLD.

The presence of frailty decreases the overall survival of cancer patients. An accurate and operational diagnostic method is needed to help clinicians choose the most appropriate treatment to improve patient outcomes. ⋯ The nomogram model provides an accurate method to diagnose frailty in cancer patients. Using this model could lead to the selection of more appropriate therapy and a better prognosis for cancer patients.

Malnutrition and nutritional risk are risk factors for many adverse health outcomes in older adults, but they have rarely been assessed in China. The aim of this study was to evaluate the availability of Elderly Nutritional Indicators for Geriatric Malnutrition Assessment (ENIGMA), a nutritional scale originally developed to predict mortality, in assessing nutritional risks and predicting adverse health outcomes in Chinese community-dwelling older adults. ⋯ ENIGMA could serve as a nutritional risk screening tool that has a robust role in predicting cognitive impairment, functional limitation, and frailty in Chinese community-dwelling older adults. It may be recommended for early nutritional risk screening and has the potential to guide early nutritional intervention in communities and primary care settings in China.

In an era when telemedicine is becoming increasingly essential, the development and validation of miniaturized Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) devices for accurate and reliable body composition assessment is crucial. This study investigates the BIA Metadieta, a novel miniaturized BIA device, by comparing its performance with that of standard hospital BIA equipment across a diverse demographic. The aim is to enhance remote health monitoring by integrating compact and efficient technology into routine healthcare practices. ⋯ The BIA Metadieta device, with its miniaturized form factor, represents a significant step forward in the field of remote health monitoring, providing a reliable, accurate, and accessible means for assessing body composition.
