Case ReportsA Novel Technique: Ultrasound-Guided Serratus Anterior Plane Block for the Treatment of Posttraumatic Intercostal Neuralgia.
Serratus anterior plane block has been used for pain management during the acute period of conditions affecting the thorax, such as postthoracotomy recovery, rib fracture, and breast surgery recovery. Here, we report the use of serratus anterior plane block in posttraumatic chronic pain treatment. We describe a case of posttraumatic chronic intercostal neuralgia, in which successful pain relief was achieved via repeated injections of local anesthetic and steroid combinations in the serratus anterior plane under ultrasonographic guidance. This novel technique is easy to administer, reliable, and warrants further investigation with regard to its use for rehabilitation of patients who are experiencing posttraumatic chronic neuropathies of the chest wall.

Artificial intelligence methods are being applied broadly in society and increasingly in health care and research. Machine learning, a subset of artificial intelligence, represents the study of algorithms that improve automatically with experience. This article provides a basic overview of artificial intelligence, machine learning categories, common applications in the business sphere, advantages and disadvantages of using this technology, and example applications in rehabilitation and other fields for contextual purposes. The study and implementation of machine learning and artificial intelligence can function to improve patient care and represents a burgeoning area of research.

Caloric Intake Relative to Total Daily Energy Expenditure Using a Spinal Cord Injury-Specific Correction Factor: An Analysis by Level of Injury.
The aims of the study were to evaluate the influence of level of spinal cord injury (SCI) on caloric intake relative to total daily energy expenditure (TDEE) and body composition, and to develop a SCI-specific correction factor for the TDEE estimation. ⋯ The Association of Academic Physiatrists is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The Association of Academic Physiatrists designates this journal-based CME activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Use of Platelet-Rich Plasma for the Treatment of Acetabular Labral Tear of the Hip: A Pilot Study.
This study aims to assess whether ultrasound-guided injection of platelet-rich plasma can safely and effectively treat symptoms associated with acetabular hip labral tears. ⋯ Ultrasound-guided injection of platelet-rich plasma holds promise as an emerging, minimally invasive technique toward symptom relief, reducing pain, and improving function in patients with hip labral tears.
