ReviewRandomized controlled trials in endourology: a quality assessment.
To analyze the quality of studies reporting randomized clinical trials (RCTs) in the field of endourology. ⋯ There has been a growing number of Journal of Endourology publications reporting on RTC over the last two decades. The quality of reporting for these studies remains suboptimal, however. Researchers should focus on a more appropriate description of key features of any given RCT, such as randomization and allocation methods, as well as disclosure of IRB review and financial support.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyComparison of percutaneous nephrolithotomy under spinal versus general anesthesia: a randomized clinical trial.
To evaluate the safety and efficacy of spinal anesthesia compared with general anesthesia in patients who underwent percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). ⋯ It seems that using spinal anesthesia by intrathecal injection of local anesthetic solutions vs general anesthesia has comparable surgical outcomes and reduces the requirement for analgesia after PCNL in the early postoperative period.

Controlled Clinical TrialThe impact of retrograde intrarenal surgery for asymptomatic renal stones in patients undergoing ureteroscopy for a symptomatic ureteral stone.
In the era of rigid ureteroscopy (URS) for ureteral stones, asymptomatic renal stones were often left in place. With the advent of flexible URS, however, the treatment of such renal stones became an attractive option. Data are scarce regarding the impact of retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) performed at the time of URS for a symptomatic ureteral stone in comparison with ureteral stone removal alone. The purpose of the study was to compare the outcomes of URS combined with RIRS with URS alone. ⋯ Managing asymptomatic renal stones at the time of URS for symptomatic ureteral stones significantly prolongs surgery duration but does not lengthen hospital stay, increase complications, or lower success rates. This combined approach reduces the need for future procedures and is probably more cost effective.
