Meta AnalysisThe efficacy of omega-3 fatty acid for gestational diabetes: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
The efficacy of omega-3 fatty acid to treat gestational diabetes remains controversial. We conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the influence of omega-3 fatty acid versus placebo on gestational diabetes. ⋯ Omega-3 fatty acids is associated with significantly reduced FPG, HOMA-IR, and hs-CRP in patients with gestational diabetes.

Meta AnalysisSingle fresh blastocyst transfer or single cryopreserved-thawed blastocyst transfer: which is preferable for infertile patients in IVF/ICSI cycles? A meta-analysis.
Nowadays, an increasing number of studies have proposed single embryo transfer (SET), especially single blastocyst transfer (SBT). To compare the clinical outcomes of single fresh blastocyst transfer (BT) and single cryopreserved-thawed BT in patients undergoing in vitro fertilization or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF/ICSI) cycles. ⋯ In summary, this meta-analysis supports the hypothesis that single cryopreserved BT might not be the best choice compared with single fresh BT in patients undergoing IVF/ICSI cycles.

Controlled Clinical TrialSingle and double endometrial scratching (ES) in infertile women with strict criteria of recurrent implantation failure (RIF).
Controversies surrounding the effect of ES on pregnancy outcome in women with RIF are mostly due to the poorly defined target population. We evaluated the effect of ES on clinical outcomes in women with strict criteria of RIF before IVF/ICSI. We also examined the effect of ES on the expression of markers of endometrial receptivity. ⋯ ES improves impaired endometrial receptivity by partially normalizing the expression of estrogen and progesterone receptors (ERs, PRs) and pinopodes. We concluded that in a well-defined subpopulation of infertile women with RIF, ES significantly enhances pregnancy rates. ES has a specific impact on endometrial receptivity normalizing the expression of some markers.

Case ReportsHypercalcemic crisis in third trimenon: evaluating the optimal treatment strategy.
Hypercalcemia due to primary hyperparathyroidism during pregnancy is a rare condition and associated with increased morbidity and mortality for the mother and the unborn child. Whereas parathyroidectomy is favored during the second trimester, no clear recommendations exist for its management during the third trimenon. We here report the case of a 26-year-old woman in the 29th week of her first pregnancy, who was admitted to our clinic with hypertension, intra-uterine growth retardation and polyhydramnios. ⋯ This case report underlines the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of primary hyperparathyroidism during pregnancy. If diagnosed in the third trimenon, an interdisciplinary approach is crucial. If medical treatment fails to sufficiently control hypercalcemia, surgical parathyroid exploration should be considered even in cases of unsuccessful localization of adenomatous parathyroid glands.

Effect of orlistat or metformin in overweight and obese polycystic ovary syndrome patients with insulin resistance.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of orlistat or metformin combined with Diane-35 on anthropometric, hormonal and metabolic parameters in overweight and obese polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients with insulin resistance (fasting insulin > 10 mIU/L). A total of 240 PCOS women were randomly allocated to orlistat plus Diane-35(OD group), metformin plus Diane-35(MD group), orlistat plus metformin plus Diane-35(OMD group) or Diane-35 (D group). Body weight, BMI, waist and hip circumference, blood pressure, endocrine profile, lipid profile and insulin resistance were assessed at baseline and after 3 months. ⋯ Side effects were less with orlistat than metformin. This study demonstrated that orlistat is more effective in reducing weight and lipid profile than metformin. Besides, orlistat has mild side-effects and is better tolerated compared with metformin.
