To evaluate the impact of the Kuwait Diabetes Care Program on the quality of care provided for diabetic patients in the Primary Health Care setting. ⋯ This audit shows that a national diabetes program was associated with improved processes of diabetes care. Further, support from health authorities, provision of manpower resources, a continuing monitoring and evaluation system, and conduction of structured education programs may lead to further improvements in the quality of diabetes care.

To evaluate the outcome of the use of MgSO4 therapy in women with severe pre-eclampsia in Kuwait from January 2002 to December 2004. ⋯ Magnesium sulphate was effective in preventing recurrence of eclamptic fits and safe for both mother and fetus.

We report a case of giant diaphragmatic hydatid cyst which ruptured spontaneously into the intrapleural space in a patient with coexistent giant hepatic hydatid cyst. ⋯ This case shows that hydatid cysts of the diaphragm can rupture into the intrapleural space spontaneously. One-stage operation through thoracotomy may be successful for the surgical intervention for diaphragmatic hydatid cysts with coexistent hepatic cyst.

We aimed to describe the pattern of nosocomial infections in an adult medical-surgical intensive care unit (ICU). ⋯ VAP was the most common nosocomial infection in our ICU. Gram-negative organisms were more commonly reported as etiologic agents of ICU infections.

The aim of our study was to demonstrate our experience regarding the surgical treatment of complications after foreign body ingestion. ⋯ The most common complication after foreign body ingestion was the perforation of the gastrointestinal tract. The risk of perforation was higher when sharp foreign bodies were ingested. The pre-operative diagnosis was difficult, and it was usually achieved intra-operatively.
