Outcome of Internal Neurolysis for Trigeminal Neuralgia without Neurovascular Compression and Its Relationship with Intraoperative Trigeminocardiac Reflex.
Internal neurolysis (IN) is an effective surgical treatment for trigeminal neuralgia (TN) without neurovascular compression (NVC) or postoperative recurrence. However, the trigeminal nerve is directly manipulated during the procedure, and there is a high incidence of trigeminocardiac reflex (TCR). The aim of this study was to retrospectively analyze the outcome of IN and to explore its relationship with the occurrence of intraoperative TCR. ⋯ This study demonstrated that IN is an effective treatment for TN without NVC and has a close relationship with intraoperative TCR. To our knowledge, this is the first research describing TCR during IN.

Immediate Abdominal Pain after Placement of Thoracic Paddle Leads for Spinal Cord Stimulation: A Case Series.
Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is a well-established treatment modality for chronic pain. Thoracic radiculopathy has been reported as a complication of SCS paddle lead implantation by several authors and commonly presents as abdominal pain. ⋯ We conclude that the etiology of immediate postoperative abdominal pain after thoracic paddle lead implantation for SCS is most likely thoracic radiculopathy. We hypothesize that small, transient epidural hematomas could be the cause of this thoracic radiculopathy. We argue that all patients with immediate postoperative abdominal pain and no other neurologic deficits after thoracic paddle lead implantation for SCS should first be treated conservatively with observation and pain management.

Battery Longevity Comparison of Two Commonly Available Dual Channel Implantable Pulse Generators Used for Subthalamic Nucleus Stimulation in Parkinson's Disease.
Deep brain stimulation for Parkinson's disease (PD) utilises an implantable pulse generator (IPG) whose finite lifespan in non-rechargeable systems necessitates their periodic replacement. We wish to determine if there is any significant difference in longevity of 2 commonly used IPG systems; the Medtronic Kinetra, and the Medtronic Activa Primary Cell (PC), which has come to replace it. ⋯ The Activa PC IPG demonstrates a significantly reduced battery life of 2.1 years, with a median battery life of 4.5 years in comparison to 6.6 years in the Kinetra IPG. Future technology developments should therefore be focused on improving the battery life of the newer IPG systems.

DBStar: An Open-Source Tool Kit for Imaging Analysis with Patient-Customized Deep Brain Stimulation Platforms.
To create an open-source method for reconstructing microelectrode recording (MER) and deep brain stimulation (DBS) electrode coordinates along multiple parallel trajectories with patient-specific DBS implantation platforms to facilitate DBS research. ⋯ DBStar is a robust tool kit for understanding the anatomical location and context of electrode locations, and can easily be used for imaging, behavioral, or electrophysiological analyses.
