Almost always, Congo red-stained amyloid between polariser and analyser is said to show "green birefringence" or "apple-green birefringence". In 2010, we found that not all published images showed green, and not all that did showed only green. This systematic review of more recent papers was to find if there had been any improvement in the accuracy of reporting. ⋯ There is widespread and increasing inaccuracy of reporting of colours seen in Congo red-stained amyloid. People persist in saying "green birefringence" or "apple-green birefringence", even when no green is seen, or there are also other colours. Few appear to appreciate that the other colours are genuine, respectable, and helpful, the physical optical principles that explain the colours are now understood, and the best expression to use is anomalous colours.KEY MESSAGE"Green birefringence" and "apple-green birefringence" are inappropriate terms to describe the findings in amyloid stained with Congo red and examined between crossed polariser and analyser, because green is not always seen, and even when it is, other colours are commonly seen as well. The proportions of colour images showing any green and green alone, and the proportion of descriptions that agreed with illustrated colours, significantly decreased in 2010-2020 compared with earlier. The most appropriate and scientific description of the findings is anomalous colours.

Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is associated with progressive dyspnoea and exercise intolerance, but despite the central role of physiotherapy on pulmonary rehabilitation, there is a huge lack of physiotherapy approaches used specifically for LAM patients. ⋯ Endurance and resistance training is the keystone for physiotherapy in patients with LAM, but despite the reported benefits, there is a huge lack of studies related to the modalities, safety and dosage of physiotherapy prescription for patients with LAM.KEY MESSAGESLymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), a rare disease, leads to progressive dyspnoea and exercise intolerance;Physiotherapy can improve dyspnoea and exercise intolerance in LAM through endurance and resistance exercises.

Thalassaemia is one of the most common inherited monogenic diseases worldwide with a heavy global health burden. Considering its high prevalence in low and middle-income countries, a cheap, accurate and high-throughput screening test of thalassaemia prior to a more expensive confirmatory diagnostic test is urgently needed. ⋯ For the first time, we constructed an inexpensive, accurate and high-throughput classification model based on MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry quantification of haemoglobin chains and demonstrated its great potential in rapid screening of thalassaemia in large populations.Key messagesThalassaemia is one of the most common inherited monogenic diseases worldwide with a heavy global health burden. We constructed a machine learning model based on MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry quantification of haemoglobin chains to screen for thalassaemia.

The pathophysiology of fibromyalgia (FM) is related to central sensitisation (CS) to pain. Algometry allows assessing CS based on dynamic evoked pain. However, current algometrýs protocols require optimising, unifying and updating. ⋯ Several pain indicators have been demonstrated to successfully examine CS involvement in FM in the last years. Algometry, especially when it involves diverse body sites and tissues, might provide further insight into (1) the evaluation of psychological factors known to influence pain experience, (2) new dynamic pain indicators, and (3) the simultaneous use of certain neuroimaging techniques. Further research clarifying the mechanisms underlying some of these measures, and homogenisation and optimisation of the algometrýs protocols, are needed. KEY MESSAGESAlgometry allows for assessing Central Sensitisation by applying dynamic evoked pain. The future of algometry could relapse in its combination with neuroimaging.Recently-emerged pain indicators should be considered for algometrýs new protocols.

Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is associated with substantial morbidity and mortality, which is one of the key systematic manifestations of connective tissue disease (CTD). Tripterygium wilfordii, known as Leigongteng in Chinese, has been applied to treat connective tissue disease-related interstitial lung disease (CTD-ILD) for many years. Triptolide is a key effective component from Tripterygium wilfordii. But the molecular mechanism of Triptolide for treating CTD-ILD is not yet clear. ⋯ This study preliminarily reveals the internal molecular mechanism of Triptolide interfere with CTD-ILD through multiple targets, multiple access, validated through molecular docking.KEY MESSAGESTriptolide intervention CTD-ILD, which are related to various biological processes such as inflammation, infection, cell apoptosis, and cancer.PI3K-Akt, multiple virus infections, and apoptosis signalling pathway are the main pathways for Triptolide intervention CTD-ILD.Triptolide can bind with related target protein in a good bond by Intermolecular force, exhibiting a good docking activity.
