There is a dearth of comprehensive studies on the association between serum electrolyte and adverse short-term prognosis of Chinese patients with acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF). ⋯ http://www.chictr.org.cn/showproj.aspx?proj=23139. Unique identifier: ChiCTR-POC-17014020.

To assess the trends in non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) incidence in Hong Kong from 1990 to 2019 and the associations of age, calendar period, and birth cohort, to make projections to 2030, and to examine the drivers of NMSC incidence. ⋯ The slowing of the period and cohort effects suggests that the rising incidence of NMSC is partly attributable to increased awareness and diagnosis. The increasing prevalence of NMSC among the elderly and an aging population will significantly impact the clinical workload associated with NMSC for the foreseeable future.

Motor recovery following a stroke is related to the initial stroke severity and corticospinal tract integrity. One of the outcomes representing corticospinal tract integrity is the motor evoked potential (MEP). This study aimed to investigate the predictive value of MEP for motor recovery in patients with acute ischemic stroke. ⋯ Among patients with moderate-to-severe ischemic stroke, MEP + patients had better motor recoveries (approximately 70%) than MEP- patients at 90 days post-stroke. MEP + patients had better functional outcomes than MEP- patients.

We discovered that vitiligo was associated with sexual dysfunction in clinical diagnosis and treatment; however, no further analysis had been performed due to a lack of data. ⋯ Patients with vitiligo were found to be at greater risk of sexual dysfunction. Moreover, the association between vitiligo and sexual dysfunction was stronger in women than in men.Key MessagesPatients with vitiligo were found to be at greater risk of sexual dysfunction. The association between vitiligo and sexual dysfunction was stronger in women than in men.

Carotid stenting is used with an expanding indications. The neurotrophins are a family of proteins that induce the survival, development, and function of neurons. Carotid stenting alters cerebral blood flow and can affect neurotrophins' levels. ⋯ Periprocedural and mid-term concentrations of neurotrophins after carotid stenting change in non-linear model. This may be due to changes in cerebral perfusion and also might be involved in neuronal recovery and reparation after reperfusion.KEY MESSAGESPeriprocedural and mid-term concentrations of neurotrophins after carotid stenting change in non-linear model. As the majority of them are not specific, their periprocedural change can be used as a clinical correlate to guide changes or even success in carotid stenting.Changes in neutrophins' concentrations may be due to changes in cerebral perfusion and also might be involved in neuronal recovery and reparation after reperfusion. This goes in analogy with cardiac high-sensitive troponin, used as procedural guidance in coronary interventions.
