Carotid stenting is used with an expanding indications. The neurotrophins are a family of proteins that induce the survival, development, and function of neurons. Carotid stenting alters cerebral blood flow and can affect neurotrophins' levels. ⋯ Periprocedural and mid-term concentrations of neurotrophins after carotid stenting change in non-linear model. This may be due to changes in cerebral perfusion and also might be involved in neuronal recovery and reparation after reperfusion.KEY MESSAGESPeriprocedural and mid-term concentrations of neurotrophins after carotid stenting change in non-linear model. As the majority of them are not specific, their periprocedural change can be used as a clinical correlate to guide changes or even success in carotid stenting.Changes in neutrophins' concentrations may be due to changes in cerebral perfusion and also might be involved in neuronal recovery and reparation after reperfusion. This goes in analogy with cardiac high-sensitive troponin, used as procedural guidance in coronary interventions.

The prediction value of platelet-derived growth factor for major adverse cardiovascular events in patients with acute non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction.
The value of plasma Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF) as a biomarker in predicting major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in patients with acute non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) remains unclear. ⋯ PDGF levels can predict short-term and long-term MACEs in NSTEMI patients after discharge, especially for patients with older age, higher GRACE score and baseline PLT > 200 × 109/L.Key messagesPDGF is a risk factor for short- and long-term MACEs in patients with STEMI.PDGF has a better prognostic value in patients with older age and PLT > 200 × 109/L.Baseline plasma PDGF levels were positively correlated with GRACE score.

Anti-CD19 chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) T-cell therapy has been shown to have excellent efficacy in patients with relapsed/refractory (R/R) B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). But many patients are refractory to anti-CD19-CAR T-cell therapy or relapse again. ⋯ Blinatumomab could be an effective and safe salvage therapy in patients with R/R B-ALL who failed/progressed after anti-CD19-CAR T therapy, even in R/R B-ALL patients without high expression of CD19 in B-ALL cells, patients with CNS leukemia or co-infection.Key messagesSome R/R B-ALL patients did not respond to anti-CD19 CAR T-cell therapy or had a disease progression again. Effective and safe salvage therapy for such patients remains to be explored.Blinatumomab could be an effective and safe salvage therapy in patients with R/R B-ALL who failed/progressed after anti-CD19-CAR T therapy, even in patients without high expression of CD19 in B-ALL cells.Blinatumomab could be an effective and safe salvage therapy in patients with R/R B-ALL who failed/progressed after anti-CD19-CAR T therapy, even in patients with CNS leukemia or co-infection.

Ovarian clear cell carcinoma (OCCC) has distinct clinical and molecular features and heterogeneous prognosis. Insights into the somatic genomic abnormalities of OCCC provide the basis for deeper understanding and potential therapeutic avenues. Herein, we performed extensive genomic profiling in Chinese patients to illustrate the mutation landscape and genetic prognostic biomarkers of OCCC. ⋯ We described somatic genomic alterations in Chinese OCCC patients and observed different genomic alterations between stage I and stage II/III/IV tumours. Genetic factors may supplement clinical factors in nomogram modelling for PFS prediction.Key MessagesWe performed extensive genomic profiling in a well-annotated cohort of 61 Chinese ovarian clear cell carcinoma (OCCC) patients.PIK3CA mutations were associated with worse overall survival (OS) in stage I OCCC, and SWI/SNF gene mutations were associated with improved OS in stage II/III/IV disease. We propose an easy-to-use nomogram using clinical factors (tumour stage and residual disease) and genetic alterations (SWI/SNF complex mutations, ATM mutations and chr8q CNAs) to predict the progress-free survival (PFS) of OCCC.

The connection between vitamin D to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is still unclear. Herein, the relationship of vitamin D with NAFLD and liver fibrosis (LF) detected by vibration controlled transient elastography was investigated in US adults. ⋯ No relationship was found between vitamin D and CAP-defined NAFLD. However, a positive connection of the high serum vitamin D to the reduced LF risk was found among NAFLD subjects.Key messages:Our study found no relationship between vitamin D and CAP-defined NAFLD in US adults.High serum vitamin D was inversely associated with liver fibrosis in a dose-dependent manner among NAFLD participants.
