The risk of gastric cancer can be predicted by gastroscopic manifestation recognition and the Kyoto Gastritis Score. This study aims to validate the applicability of AI approaches for recognizing gastroscopic manifestations according to the definition of Kyoto Gastritis Score, with the goal of improving early gastric cancer detection and reducing gastric cancer mortality. ⋯ Our study demonstrates the potential of deep learning approaches on gastric manifestation recognition over junior, even senior endoscopists. Thus, the deep learning approach holds potential as an auxiliary tool, although prospective validation is still needed to assess its clinical applicability.

To evaluate the findings and the correlation of optical coherence tomography angiography and pattern and flash electroretinography in diabetes mellitus without retinopathy. ⋯ OCTA revealed decreased superficial vascular densities with the onset of the metabolic process of diabetes mellitus. As a result of these structural changes, lower scotopic and photopic amplitudes, decreased OP amplitudes, and prolonged implicit times in flash ERG were obtained.

In the Asian population, SOD1 variants are the most common cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). To date, more than 200 variants have been reported in SOD1. This study aimed to summarize the genotype-phenotype correlation and determine whether the patients carrying common variants derive from a common ancestor. ⋯ Our study expanded the understanding of the genotype-phenotype correlation of ALS with SOD1 variants and revealed that the common p.H47R or p.V48A variant did not have a founder effect.

The prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) genotype and cervical neoplasia in women older than 64 years, who are outside the age demographic of cervical cancer screening in China, has been under-researched. This study conducts a retrospective analysis of women from a tertiary hospital in Guangzhou, with the aim to offer valuable insights for cervical cancer prevention and control in elderly women. The study incorporated 876 women, all aged 64 and above. ⋯ In conclusion, the burden of HPV infection is significant among women over 64 years in Guangzhou. Re-evaluation of cervical cancer screening strategies for women after the age of 64 is imperative. Moreover, the HPV 16/18/52/58 genotype model could serve as an alternative triage approach to identify histological CIN2+ among elderly women with HPV-positive/NILM status.

Traditional medical education often lacks contextual experience, hindering students' ability to effectively apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios. The integration of the metaverse into medical education holds great enormous promise for addressing educational disparities, particularly in lower-middle-income countries (LMICs) accompanied by rapid technological advancements. This commentary paper aimed to address the potential of the metaverse in enhancing basic sciences education within the constraints faced by universities in LMICs. We also addressed learning design challenges by proposing fundamental design elements and a suggested conceptual framework for developing metaverse-based teaching methods. The goal is to assist educators and medical practitioners in comprehensivley understanding key factors in immersive teaching and learning. ⋯ The metaverse offers a promising solution for enhancing medical education by providing immersive, context-rich learning experiences. This paper proposes a conceptual framework and fundamental design elements to aid faculty educators and medical practitioners in effectively incorporating metaverse technology into their teaching methods, thus improving educational outcomes in LMICs.
