The present study aims to investigate the clinical and histopathological features of peritoneal endometriosis (PEM) and deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE). ⋯ Although different morphological appearance of PEM is a degenerative process, some active brown lesions of PEM have invasive effects during the process and may further develop into DIE. PEM and DIE may be different developmental stages of the same disease.

Athletes are susceptible to acute respiratory tract infections, including SARS-CoV-2, which can affect cardiovascular function. We aimed to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 infection and quarantine on cardiac function in male and female collegiate athletes. ⋯ Our study reveals unique sex-specific cardiac changes in collegiate athletes following SARS-CoV-2 infection and quarantine compared to controls. Despite a mild reduction in LVEF, which was only observed in the first weeks following infection, no clinically significant cardiac abnormalities were observed. Further research is required to understand if the changes in LVEF are directly attributed to the infection or indirectly through exercise restrictions resulting from quarantine.

Objective: To realize the changes in pulmonary hypertension (PH) patients' right ventricular function. Methods: A total number of 74 patients with PH were included, and the parameters of standard echocardiographic were measured as well as the strain of peak longitudinal of each segment during the systole of the right ventricle to calculate the global longitudinal strain (LS) during systole of the right ventricular free wall. Results: ① As pulmonary arterial pressure increased, the right ventricular area gradually increased, and the case group showed the decreased right ventricular fractional area change (RVFAC), tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE), and tricuspid annular peak systolic velocity (S') (p < 0.05). ⋯ Conclusion: ① LS right ventricular free wall is useful in detecting changes in right ventricular systolic function early on with greater sensitivity than RVFAC, TAPSE, and S'. In addition, increased right ventricular pressure loading can result in a subsequent impairment of right ventricular myocardial mechanics. ② As right ventricular pressure loading increases, right ventricular strain decreases. ③ In mild PH, the right ventricular free wall's. LS is more sensitive than standard measures in spotting early alterations in myocardial mechanics.

Low HbF expression in HbE-β+-thalassemia may lead to misdiagnosis of HbE heterozygosity. We aimed to characterize the β- and α-globin genes and the modifying factors related to HbF expression in patients with an Hb phenotype similar to that of HbE heterozygotes. Furthermore, screening tools for differentiating HbE-β+-thalassemia from HbE heterozygotes have been investigated. ⋯ HbE-β+-thalassemia cannot be disregarded until appropriate DNA analysis is performed, and the detection of α-thalassemia mutations should always be performed under these conditions. An HbE level ≥35.0% may indicate screening of samples for DNA analysis for HbE-β+-thalassemia diagnosis.

This study aims to explore the correlation between central and peripheral thyroid resistance indices and diabetic retinopathy(DR) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), so as to provide a clinical basis for the prevention and treatment of diabetic retinopathy. ⋯ The reduction of central and peripheral thyroid hormone sensitivity is an independent risk factor for DR. These results can help predict the risk of the occurrence and development of DR, which may provide a clinical basis for the prevention and treatment of DR in T2DM patients.
