The prevalence of hypertension (HTN) is higher in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Inflammation is the key link between HTN and NAFLD. Systemic inflammation can be dramatically increased by inflammatory diet intake. However, whether controlling the inflammatory diet intake in NAFLD patients could affect the occurrence of HTN still remains unknown. Our aim here is to evaluate the effect of the dietary inflammatory index (DII) on blood pressure in patients with different grades of hepatic steatosis. ⋯ In the present study, we demonstrated that DII was a risk factor for increased SBP and the prevalence of HTN in males with severe hepatic steatosis S3, indicating that anti-inflammatory dietary management should be considered in these individuals to reduce the risk of developing HTN.

Currently, there are still no definitive consensus in the treatment of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA). This study aimed to build a clinical decision support tool based on machine learning using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database and the data from the Fifth Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital in China. ⋯ The prediction model and tool established in this study can be applied to predict the prognosis of iCCA after treatment by inputting the patient's clinical parameters or TNM stages and treatment options, thus contributing to optimal clinical decisions.KEY MESSAGESA prognostic model related to disease staging and treatment mode was conducted using the method of machine learning, based on the big data of multi centers. The online calculator can predict the short-term survival prognosis of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, thus, help to make the best clinical decision. The online calculator built to calculate the mortality risk and overall survival can be easily obtained and applied.

Infections contribute significantly to neonatal mortality in Nigeria. Community health officers (CHOs) provide maternal, newborn and child health services at the primary health care level. However, newborn infection prevention and control (NB-IPC) is not included in their current training curriculum, which has little innovation in teaching methods. This study assessed the effectiveness of a blended curriculum on NB-IPC in improving the competencies of student CHOs. ⋯ The new curriculum on NB-IPC improved the competencies of student CHOs in LUTH and they were highly satisfied. The blended curriculum may be a feasible addition to learning in CHO schools across Nigeria.Key messageA blended curriculum on NB-IPC involving video teaching is effective in improving the competencies of student CHOs.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the attitude of obstetricians/gynecologists toward indicating an elective cesarean delivery in pregnant patients with a previous myomectomy. ⋯ Obstetricians/gynecologists are cautious to indicate a cesarean in pregnant patients with a previous myomectomy, except for cases at hypothetic high-risk for uterine rupture, mainly supported by weak evidence. Information to patients and among clinicians is crucial to avoid inappropriate cesarean indications.KEY MESSAGESObstetricians/gynecologists are cautious to indicate a cesarean in pregnant patients with a previous myomectomy.Information to patients and among clinicians is crucial to avoid inappropriate cesarean indications in pregnant patients with a previous myomectomy.

We sought to evaluate the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in dry eyes treated with 0.05% cyclosporin A and 3.0% diquafosol tetrasodium. ⋯ MMP-9 expression and grade were lower after treatment with cyclosporin than after treatment with diquafosol in the dry eye disease. Anti-inflammatory treatment can decrease ocular MMP-9 levels in dry eye disease.
