This study combined the bioinformatics and in vitro experiment-related technologies to analyze the impact of steroid 5 alpha-reductase 3 (SRD5A3) on the prognosis and immune microenvironment of Liver Hepatocellular Carcinoma (LIHC). ⋯ SRD5A3 is actively expressed in LIHC, and positive expression of SRD5A3 is an independent risk factor for different prognoses in patients with LIHC. SRD5A3 can promote the proliferation, migration, and invasion of liver cancer cells and is related to short immune infiltration in patients with LIHC.

In the Asian population, SOD1 variants are the most common cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). To date, more than 200 variants have been reported in SOD1. This study aimed to summarize the genotype-phenotype correlation and determine whether the patients carrying common variants derive from a common ancestor. ⋯ Our study expanded the understanding of the genotype-phenotype correlation of ALS with SOD1 variants and revealed that the common p.H47R or p.V48A variant did not have a founder effect.

Clinical characteristics of adult asthma patients hospitalized by COVID-19 in Mexico City: a real-world study.
The COVID-19 pandemic raised concerns about whether individuals with chronic respiratory diseases, such as asthma, were at higher risk of severe outcomes. Although several studies were published on this topic, not all included asthma as a risk factor. Therefore, describing the clinical characteristics of COVID-19-infected asthma patients in a specialized respiratory center is valuable as a real-life study. ⋯ Asthma prevalence among patients with COVID-19 was low, but mortality was higher in asthma patients. Although the small sample size limits the generalizability of these findings, this study in a Mexican population hospitalized in a reference hospital provides insights for improving asthma management in future pandemics.

Progressive pulmonary fibrosis (PPF) is a general term for a class of interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) characterized by a progressive fibrosing (PF) phenotype. Patients with PPF have decreased lung function, exercise ability, and quality of life. The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical characteristics, potential associated factors for disease progression, and survival outcomes of patients in the PPF population. ⋯ Patients who were older, had high CA-153 and LDH levels, had poor pulmonary function test results, or had a UIP-like pattern on chest HRCT were more likely to have indications for the progression of f-ILD to PPF. Increased SPAP and AE are independent risk factors for the prognosis of PPF patients, so additional attention should be given to such patients.

Literature on the safety of remdesivir in hospitalized COVID-19 patients with severe renal impairment is limited. We aimed to investigate the safety and effectiveness of remdesivir in this population. ⋯ Hospitalized COVID-19 patients receiving remdesivir with severe renal impairment had an increased risk of AKI, hospital mortality, and COVID-19 disease progression compared to patients without severe renal impairment.
