Until the present, no comprehensive studies evaluating the prevalence of food allergy and non-allergic food hypersensitivity (FA/NAFH) in adults have been done in Turkey or its surrounding countries. ⋯ We may conclude that FA/NAFH in the Turkish population seems to be low when compared with Northern and Western European countries. This may be due to genetic, cultural or dietary factors, and further studies evaluating the reasons for this low prevalence of FA/NAFH in our population are needed.

Green kiwifruit allergy is on the rise. However, no surveys testing purified major kiwi allergens have been carried out in a large population, including both kiwi-sensitized [skin prick test (SPT)-positive] and truly kiwi-allergic patients. ⋯ Act d 1, Act d 2 and Act d 3 are major allergens in the population studied. Severe symptoms after kiwi ingestion are associated with high IgE levels to Act d 1 and Act d 3.

Comparative Study Controlled Clinical Trial
Comparison of two basophil activation markers CD63 and CD203c in the diagnosis of amoxicillin allergy.
To confirm allergy to beta-lactam (BL), a basophil activation test in flow cytometry based on CD63 up-regulation was described. CD203c is a more recent basophil activation marker and up to day there is no consensus about which marker is the more sensitive one. CD203c has not yet been evaluated in the diagnosis of BL allergy. ⋯ CD203c seems to be a more sensitive activation marker of basophils than CD63 for the diagnosis of amoxicillin allergy.

To date, there is no food allergy-specific questionnaire that allows parents to report children's health-related QoL (HRQL) from the child's perspective. ⋯ The FAQLQ-PF is psychometrically robust, with excellent reliability and validity.

Montelukast is a potent cysteinyl leukotriene-1 receptor antagonist possessing some anti-inflammatory effects although the molecular mechanism of these anti-inflammatory effects is unknown. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of montelukast on nuclear factor (NF)-kappaB-associated histone acetylation activity in phorbol myristate acetate (PMA)-differentiated U937 cells. ⋯ Montelukast inhibits TNF-alpha-stimulated IL-8 expression through changes in NF-kappaB p65-associated HAT activity. Drugs targeting these enzymes may enhance the anti-inflammatory actions of montelukast.
