Observational StudyA cohort study of interstitial lung diseases in central Denmark.
Interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) form a heterogeneous group of diseases with varying degrees of inflammation and fibrosis. Epidemiological data based on the current diagnostic criteria are sparse. ⋯ ILD and IPF incidence was 4.1 and 1.3 per 100,000 inhabitants/year. The diagnostic re-evaluation raised the number of IPF diagnoses, but a diagnostic "grey zone" was still evident in patients with UIP features not qualifying the patients to be diagnosed with IPF. The GAP index was valuable as a measure of IPF severity in this cohort.

Home non-invasive ventilation use following acute hypercapnic respiratory failure in COPD.
Patients with COPD and hypercapnic respiratory failure have a worse prognosis and experience a faster deterioration in their pulmonary function. The benefit of home NPPV following an acute exacerbation of COPD with hypercapnic respiratory failure is not well understood. ⋯ Patients who used NPPV following an admission for AECOPD with hypercapnic respiratory failure had lower readmission rates and improved event-free survival after 180 days from an index admission compared to patients who did not use NPPV post discharge.

Multicenter StudyDeterminants of exercise capacity in obese and non-obese COPD patients.
The effects of obesity in combination with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) on exercise capacity are receiving increased attention. But, a comprehensive analysis of factors associated with aerobic capacity in obese COPD patients has not been performed. ⋯ Obese and non-obese COPD patients show different determinants of aerobic capacity, including pulmonary and non-pulmonary factors that are also dependent on the type of exercise protocol. These results could be considered in the evaluation of obese patients with COPD.
