This study formed part of the dose selection for a glycopyrrolate (GP)/formoterol fumarate (FF) fixed-dose combination formulated using novel Co-Suspension™ Delivery Technology and delivered via a metered dose inhaler (GFF MDI). The study aimed to confirm the optimal dose of GP to formulate with FF 9.6 μg in the fixed-dose combination product, GFF MDI. ⋯ These findings further support selection of GP 18 μg as the optimal dose to combine with FF MDI 9.6 μg for advancement into Phase III clinical trials of GFF MDI.

Restrictive spirometric pattern in the general adult population: Methods of defining the condition and consequences on prevalence.
Attempts have been made to use dynamic spirometry to define restrictive lung function, but the definition of a restrictive spirometric pattern (RSP) varies between studies such as BOLD and NHANES. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence and risk factors of RSP among adults in northern Sweden based on different definitions. ⋯ The prevalence of RSP was 7-11%. The prevalence estimates differed more depending on the choice of pre- compared to post-bronchodilator values than on the choice of RSP definition. RSP was, regardless of definition, independently associated with manual work in industry and diabetes with obesity.

Comparative StudyClinical usefulness of end-tidal CO2 profiles during incremental exercise in patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.
Great ventilation to carbon dioxide output (ΔV˙E/ΔV˙CO2) and reduced end-tidal partial pressures for CO2 (PetCO2) during incremental exercise are hallmarks of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) and idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH). However, CTEPH is more likely to involve proximal arteries, which may lead to poorer right ventricle-pulmonary vascular coupling and worse gas exchange abnormalities. Therefore, abnormal PetCO2 profiles during exercise may be more prominent in patients with CTEPH and could be helpful to indicate disease severity. ⋯ Compared to patients with IPAH, patients with CTEPH present more impaired gas exchange during exercise, and PetCO2 abnormalities may be used to identify more clinically and hemodynamically severe cases.
