Intravesical bacille Calmette-Guérin versus mitomycin C in superficial bladder cancer: formal meta-analysis of comparative studies on tumor progression.
To compare the therapeutic efficacy of intravesical bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) with mitomycin C (MMC) on progression of Stage Ta and T1 bladder carcinoma. ⋯ The results demonstrated statistically significant superiority for BCG compared with MMC for the prevention of tumor progression only if BCG maintenance therapy was provided.

Safety and efficacy of percutaneous nephrolithotomy in patients with neurogenic bladder dysfunction.
To review our experience performing percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL) on patients with neurogenic bladder dysfunction with special attention paid to the risks of surgical complications and stone recurrence. Patients with neurogenic bladder dysfunction with or without urinary diversion are at increased risk of urolithiasis, surgical complications, and recurrent stone disease. ⋯ PNL in patients with neurogenic voiding dysfunction is safe and effective, with outcomes comparable to that of patients without such lesions. The complication rate is small but statistically significant. It is important to obtain adequate urine cultures, because renal pelvis and bladder culture data may differ and affect the outcome. Risk factors for recurrent stone disease include a high spinal cord lesion, indwelling urinary catheter, and ureterosigmoidostomy.

Prostate-specific antigen doubling time predicts response to deferred antiandrogen therapy in men with androgen-independent prostate cancer.
To identify the pretreatment variables that are predictive of response and the duration of response to deferred antiandrogen therapy in men with androgen-independent prostate cancer (AIPC). ⋯ The PSADT predicted both the response and the duration of the response to deferred antiandrogen therapy in patients diagnosed with AIPC.
