Efficacy of gabapentin for prevention of postoperative catheter-related bladder discomfort in patients undergoing transurethral resection of bladder tumor.
To evaluate the effect of 600 mg and 1200 mg oral gabapentin pretreatment for the prevention of postoperative catheter-related bladder discomfort (CRBD) in patients undergoing catheterization after transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT). ⋯ Gabapentin 1200 mg administered before surgery is more effective than gabapentin 600 mg in decreasing the incidence of postoperative CRBD.

To investigate the association between the procalcitonin (PCT) level during the first febrile urinary tract infection (UTI) in children and the presence of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR). VUR-associated UTI is among the primary causes of chronic renal failure in Turkey. ⋯ A PCT-guided strategy could help in detecting patients with VUR. Large cohort studies are needed to define an accurate cutoff value for children who are at risk of VUR, which increases the risk of renal damage and subsequent scarring.

To investigate the role of transforming growth factor-β-induced (TGFBI) in metastasis of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and the associations between TGFBI expression and von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) status. ⋯ The results of the present study suggest that TGFBI-promoted metastasis of RCC cells depends on inactivation of the VHL tumor suppressor and that TGFBI could be a therapeutic target against RCC in the future.
