Spontaneous bladder rupture is a rare condition, with diagnosis more rare in the prenatal than postnatal period. To our knowledge, there have been 7 cases of prenatally diagnosed bladder ruptures and all have been males. ⋯ After a primary Cesarean-section birth, a tear in the newborn infant bladder dome was identified and repaired in 2 layers. The cause of the bladder rupture remains unknown.

To evaluate the use of topical lidocaine gel and glyceryl trinitrate ointment (GTN) vs placebo, in reducing anal pain and discomfort as an adjunct to periprostatic anesthesia because of probe insertion, during the use of transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS) prostate-guided biopsy in young patients. ⋯ Lidocaine gel and GTN ointment is safe and effective in reducing anal pain associated with the insertion of an ultrasound probe. Furthermore, men with GTN ointment also reported less pain during biopsy. We suggest that analgesia before PPNB could significantly reduce anal pain and improve tolerance during TRUS prostate-guided biopsy.

To assess the surgery-related complications at robot-assisted radical cystectomy with total intracorporeal urinary diversion during our learning curve in treating 45 patients with bladder cancer. ⋯ Although robot-assisted radical cystectomy with total intracorporeal urinary diversion is a complex procedure, we observed decreased surgery-related complications and improved outcomes over time in the present series. Our results need to be confirmed by others before robot-assisted radical cystectomy with totally intracorporeal urinary diversion can be accepted as a treatment option for patients with bladder cancer.

To examine the prevalence and correlates of general and bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis (BPS/IC)-specific sexual dysfunction among women in the RAND Interstitial Cystitis Epidemiology study using a probability sample survey of U.S. households. Sexual dysfunction can contribute to a reduced quality of life for women with bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis (BPS/IC). ⋯ The results of our study have shown that women with BPS/IC symptoms experience very high levels of sexual dysfunction. Also, sexual dysfunction covaries with symptoms.
