Multicenter Study
Ketorolac is underutilized after ureteral reimplantation despite reduced hospital cost and reduced length of stay.
To examine patterns of ketorolac use and its association with hospital outcomes. Although ureteral reimplantation (UR) reliably corrects vesicoureteral reflux, postoperative pain and bladder spasm often occur. Multiple studies show that ketorolac markedly reduces postoperative pain after UR, but there is no information on whether ketorolac is routinely used. ⋯ In a contemporary nationwide sample, only half of children undergoing UR received ketorolac. Ketorolac use is independently associated with reduced procedure costs and reduced length of stay after UR, without increased complications. This suggests underutilization of ketorolac after UR.

Case Reports
Acute scrotum caused by vasitis with abscess formation in children with lower urological anomalies.
The major causes of acute scrotum include testicular torsion, torsion of an appendix testis, and epididymo-orchitis. Recently, we experienced rare cases of acute scrotum caused by vasitis. Such a condition has not been previously reported in the literature so we summarize our patients with acute scrotum and discuss the pathogenesis of these rare cases. ⋯ Based on our experience, we propose that lower urological anomalies predispose children to vasitis and subsequent abscess formation. Pathologic conditions of this type have to be considered as potential causes of acute scrotum.

To determine the responsiveness of the University of California-Los Angeles Prostate Cancer Index (UCLA-PCI) by studying its sensitivity to clinically perceptible changes in health over time in men treated for localized prostate cancer. ⋯ The UCLA-PCI is responsive to change in assessing HRQOL in men treated for prostate cancer.

Comparative Study
Protective value of a folkloric medicinal plant extract against mortality and hemorrhage in a life-threatening renal trauma model.
To compare the efficacy of a folkloric medicinal plant extract (Ankaferd Blood Stopper [ABS]) with that of oxidized cellulose (Surgicel) in a life-threatening renal injury model. ABS is a mixture of 5 plants that has historically been used in Turkish traditional medicine. It has been approved by the Ministry of Health to manage external hemorrhage and dental surgery bleeding in Turkey. ⋯ ABS is as effective as Surgicel in achieving hemostasis and lengthening survival time following partial nephrectomy in an experimental rat model.

Review Historical Article
Classics of urology: a half century history of the most frequently cited articles (1955-2009).
To identify and characterize the most frequently cited articles published in Journals dedicated to Urology over the last 50 years. A Pubmed search was performed of all articles published in the 13 most cited urological journals between 1955 and 2009. ⋯ The most common topic among classic articles was prostate cancer and prostate-specific antigen (33.5%), followed by bladder cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia. A further analysis was performed for the 50 most frequently cited articles ("top-50").
