To report a prospective trial of lycopene supplementation in biochemically relapsed prostate cancer. ⋯ Lycopene supplementation in men with biochemically relapsed prostate cancer is safe and well tolerated. The plasma levels of lycopene were similar for a wide dose range (15 to 90 mg/day) and plateaued by 3 months. Lycopene supplementation at the doses used in this study did not result in any discernible response in serum PSA.

To examine grade reliability when biopsies contain very small amounts of prostate cancer. Prostate biopsy findings are known to undergrade prostate cancer compared with the pathologic specimens yet remain the only grade guiding disease management. ⋯ Histologic grading from small amounts of cancer in prostate biopsies is reliable and not more prone to grading errors. A repeat biopsy for these patients may not be indicated.

Many cases of testicular trauma secondary to munitions have been reported. We report a case of a 37-year-old man who suffered testicular trauma as a result of a less-lethal munition projectile. With the advent, and increased use, of less-lethal munitions by the military and law enforcement agencies, more of these new subsets of genitourinary trauma patients who will require care are sure to result.

To analyze the limitations of existing simulators for urologic techniques, and then test and evaluate a novel virtual reality (VR) simulator for endourologic procedures of the lower urinary tract. Surgical simulation using VR has the potential to have a tremendous impact on surgical training, testing, and certification. Endourologic procedures seem to be an ideal target for VR systems. ⋯ The URO-Trainer represents the latest generation of endoscopy simulators. Authentic visual and haptic sensations, unlimited virtual cases, and an intelligent tutoring system make this modular system an important improvement in computer-based training and quality control in urology.

Urodynamic distinctions between idiopathic detrusor overactivity and detrusor overactivity secondary to multiple sclerosis.
To evaluate the urodynamic characteristics of neurogenic detrusor overactivity (NDO) secondary to multiple sclerosis (MS) compared with idiopathic DO (IDO) to determine whether urodynamic distinctions could differentiate the different etiologies of DO. ⋯ The urodynamic characteristics of NDO differed significantly from those of IDO. Additional investigation is required to determine whether these differences are due to neurogenic influences directly on the detrusor muscle through aberrant innervation or by other mechanisms, such as enhanced outlet resistance during voiding.
